Why do I get the image in my head of the movie Memento with the poloroid of the cop with the notation "Don't believe his lies". If I had any posting skills I'd drop that clip here.

All the moaning and bitching Ark. St did after the game for no reason and here they are bowling in GoDaddy.Game did not matter one second.....No surprise on this end...

WKU would match ASU mobile attendance due to a number of factors.

1. Game is on Jan. 5th. Much easier to get crowd as opposed to Pizza bowl the day after Christmas on the 26th.

2. We have always traveled well in hoops especially to warmer cities. Many in the area frequent the Destin area. We have always traveled well to NCAA tournament.

3. Mobile is a much easier sell than Detroit.

If rolls were reversed last year, how many fans would ASU have taken to Detroit during a huge snow storm/blizzard.

If ASU was in the Washington,DC bowl, how many fans do you think you take. It is east to say "we travel well" when the bowl is in close proximity in a warm city.

GoDaddy means missing work on a Monday. For many people taking a Monday off isn't easy.

GoDaddy also means kids have to miss the first day of school after the break. My daughter is in college this year but her high school had a policy of no excused absences the first or last week of each semester so going meant she could not make up any work assigned that day.

Western didn't have the problem of kids missing school with our bowl but I'm sure a lot of people had to make plans on missing 2 days of work since it was on a Wednesday night. I'm sure some people was off for the day after Christmas but a lot wasn't and probably not many for the travel day back home.


Western easily had 1500 for our game at USA this year and about the same last year at FIU so I would bet we would be in the 7 to 10k range for Mobile...most likely closer to 7 than 10. And if the planets aline just right and UCF and USF win on Saturday and Western some how lucks into St Pete I think Western brings 5 to 7k

But it's not going to happen and the odds are Western is finish playing this year.

Several fans have already made this the case.

I had to refrain from the banter of the ASU vs. WKU post game as I was heart broken after the loss. It was a great game but the refs made it an indigestible game. No fault of WKU. Now a few fans on both sides were acting like 12 year olds but I digress.

I for one hate to see WKU leave but I also hated to see UNT and MTSU leave. I think all 3 were programs on the rise with a lot of potential. The 2 Florida schools (no offense) had poor attendance and for the most part were outside the geographic footprint of the conference. Besides they have too much completion from pro sports and other major colleges in Florida. They were never going to be more than an after thought in Florida.

UNT will have the same issues, as the Florida schools, in Texas much like Texas State but at least both are within the SBC footprint and are relatively easy drives for much of the conference. I think Texas State fills in nicely for UNT. It would have been cool to have them both in the SBC at the same time.

I really don't think CUSA is a better conference going forward than the SBC as far as overall team competitiveness but they do have more bowl tie ins and more name recognition. There's good and bad for the teams who left us in joining CUSA.

I think given time USA, Texas St, App St and Ga So. Will all prosper in the SBC. Even Ga St will grow..they have a fertile recruiting ground but must compete with nearby Georgia and Ga Tech...and go head to head vs. Ga. So. Who has more name recognition.

I think the SBC will be fine going forward but as another poster suggested we need to focus on ourselves now and grow our respective brands to make ourselves and our conference be more respected by the general sports fans. With a little long term stability that can be done.

Best of luck to WKU, MTSU and UNT...but go SBC! I'm very happy with the recent adds of Ga So., Texas State and App St. Georgia State earned my respect 2 weeks ago. NMSU & Idaho were necessary for survival but we need to add NMSU in all sports IMO. Basketball is their specialty.
