Recruiting needs for class of 2014?
With the season winding down and more recruiting coming down the home stretch what does your school need in the class of 2014?

Idaho needs depth everywhere and since this staff is far more intense than the previous one I think we will lose several players to transfers. Out of a 25 person class I wouldn't be shocked to see a dozen JC guys. There are offers out everywhere and it could be a case of offering 6 kids and the first 2 to jump on them get in and the rest are pulled. We really can't afford to waste schollies on luxury pickups but when you're this thin there really is no such thing as a luxury pickup. The staff mentioned they want to recruit TX/FL/GA for the speed positions and get big guys from the west and NW. I have seen more than a few head to head SBC recruiting battles come up and it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

We seem to be set at QB with a returning RS Fr starter and a promising looking RS Fr to be and we have one HS verbal already. Our JC QB who is more of an option only QB is the wild card. If we move him to WR/DB and KR we might go get a JC replacement, I really doubt we'll grab a 4th HS QB because not many people want to sit 4 years to play 1.

At RB we have 2 bruisers who will be sr's so maybe a big back out of HS and redshirt and another faster RB to complement him

Cink and Petrino are WR gurus so I expect to get at least 2-3 studs here. I would love a tall redzone threat but beggars can't be choosers. We need someone who can get some pressure off epps and drops were a huge problem the last few games. I wouldn't be surprised to see us have some of the better WR's in the SBC in a few years.

OL is a mess right now due to injuries and I think we will get 8-10 linemen and at least half from JC to speed up the rebuild process. We played 2 true freshman this year and one was supposed to be a gray shirt. I can see us going to the JC to balance out the year groups but we need help here. If you can't pass block or open running lanes you won't score so I think there will be a high emphasis here.

TE seems to be more of an after thought in this offense and we really don't need another but I think we'll take one from HS or just grab a mess of WR's/DE's/LB's and whoever loses their position battle switches to TE.

On D
3-4 DL to keep the cupboards full. I've seen 3 or so JC DE offers out and with our DT's now we could probably go the HS route and let them develop

3 LB's to keep the cupboards full. We got a verbal from a JC ILB who looks like he should continue the line of stud JC LB's we've had the past few years and a few HS guys to balance it out

DB we're going to have a fire sale here. The best DB the past few games was a converted WR and I wouldn't be shocked to see another 2-3 CB and 2-3 safeties with a good mix of them from JC. I think we have 2 gray shirts who will join the team in January, and this is the most critical position group to go after IMO.

I don't know this staff's feelings on taking scholarship kickers or long snappers, but our FG kicking was atrocious. Our kicker also takes kickoffs and punts and is around the highest in yards per punt. Maybe it's on the long snapper, maybe it's on the kicker but I wouldn't be shocked to see a new FG specialist and/or long snapper who may or may not be on scholarship.

Could use some help at Wide receiver, on both lines, and in the Secondary...mainly as depth.

I believe the most immediate need will be DT for Troy. Losing two SR QBs will leave us with 3.

App needs more beef on both the offensive and defensive lines, skill position players for the most part we are still pretty young and have plenty of speed as always.

Coach Satterfield did mention grabbing a more receivers to replace the two seniors who will graduate. However, to not see more large linemen coming in would be a mistake as we move up IMHO.

We're losing 8 of our starting 11 on D. So, um, yeah, any guy on D will be helpful.

We have returning starters: 1 CB, 1 S and 1 LB.

Wow, I feel a lot better about facing TX St on the road next year.

That doesn't mean they will come in and start. I would assume any O or Dline guys need a year of strength and conditioning. Not many true frosh start on the lines.

We have DE, CB, LB and Safety commits but we're ok in those positions. The DLine, not so much. We still have 5 scholarships to go. Hoping they pick some guys up but, unless they're JUCOs, they're going to sit out unless they are freshman phenoms.
We have guys that got PT this year, as backups (2 on the depth chart) and a few that redshirted. The cupboard isn't that bear, just lacks PT and, as ever when moving up, depth. Gotta keep bringing them in.

How does that work? Mayo and Orakpo were the starters at LB... Both are juniors.

Our LB needs are really luxury and keeping it well stocked not for next year, but for the year after. We have decent depth for next season.

But really... This season our biggest needs are o-line and d-line. We have several players that were redshirted or just flat out didn't play in the secondary.

RE: Recruiting needs for class of 2014?
ASU returns all of our back 7 on defense on the roster. We return our #1 DE but have to replace a lot of interior DL. We return McKissic (leading WR in school history) for two more years and our #1 RB has 2 more years. Our #1 TE is back for 2 more years as well. We need to find a LT and someone to start at LG and will be breaking in a new QB.

All in all we have one big area of need and that is interior DL but like everyone else we can always stand to add depth.

Trickeration Rev....we're in Texas, you know.

Seriously, I missed Mayo so we lose 7 starters? We lose 1 LB then, in McMiller, unless Orakpo declares; which he is eligible to do since he's a grad student.

I don't see Orakpo declaring a year early. He had a good season, not a season that will put him in the middle rounds of the NFL.

Plus, if I'm Naviar, I'm selling him on "we're going to feature you next year to get you the best slot possible in the NFL."

Next 17 days will be crucial for us. Staff should be out on the road as we speak. Going after several JUCOs for January enrollment. Especially need a QB. For NSD the need is on the line on both sides of the ball. With returning players its just like everyone else, the next 90 days of S&C and nutrition will tell the tale.

GS needs help on defense, especially with DB's. We will be giving up a lot of passing yards next year. Hope the offense can keep up.

GSU gets a lot of help on D next year from redshirts, medical redshirts, and transfer that were deemed ineligible.

This. Maybe a safety or two, and we can always use OLinemen. Otherwise I think we are doing ok at our "skill" positions.

D-line and o-line. As Catmom said we better tell some JUCO guys they can start next year and bring them in. Maybe 3 JUCO guys and 2 hs kids. That way we build for the future too.
