Really?

Based on what? If you want to tear down NIU's schedule? Take an look back at UCF's. Other than South Carolina and Louisville(at the time), that is an marginal schedule at best.

Sorry, but UCF need a ton of help to move ahead of NIU.

Penn State is at least equal to Iowa, which is by far NIU's best win of the season. But then on top of that, we also beat a Top 10 UL team on the road and our lone loss is to a now Top 10 USC team. And that was by 3.

And we beat a then 7-1 Houston team who is now 8-4.

UCF is 1-1 agaisnt Top 10 teams. NIU hasn't played or beaten a Top 25 team.

There's the difference.
There's the difference.

I think Louisville not climbing back up the pols after one loss shows that the vast majority of people felt they were extremely over rated when they were in the top 10. You also needed a miracle to beat 2-10 Temple and a late TD to beat 2-9 USF. UCF is a very good team, but I just don't see it.

Iowa is a better team than Penn St and has a better record in the Big Ten than them to show for it.

Houston is an above average team but they haven't beaten anyone and they are not better than Ball State. Houston has only 1 win over a team with a winning record and that was by 5 points.

So we have two wins better than your's and you have a win over a top 25 team to put you slightly ahead of us.

They also jumped two spots to #16 and gained 126 votes in the AP poll. Also doesn't count, but is a good indicator of the other human polls.

As a side note, Fresno fell 8 spots to #24. UCF also rose two spots, to #15. Apparently, it doesn't matter if you struggle, as long as you win. Unless you're a non-AQ team. Then it's held against you.

NIU has only played 4 schools with winning records one of which was Eastern Illinois. The win over Iowa and Ball St were solid wins but the rest of the wins were over some very poor teams. UCF has only beaten 3 teams with a winning record and has 1 loss already. If they win next Saturday then they will still only have 3 wins over teams with winning records. Also note, UCF had 2 hard fought battles that they only won by a few points, against two very bad teams - USF and Temple.

I don't see how a #16 UCF passes a #14 NIU next week if UCF beats 5-6 SMU and NIU beats 9-3 Bowling Green ... so yeah ... both win, both go to the BCS, and along the way UCF keeps SMU from being bowl eligible to keep the Beef Eaters bowl open for a possible MAC school invite.

NIU and UCF are not competing for a BCS slot, so what does it matter. NIU, win the MACC, get in a BCS bowl. I like watching Jordan Lynch play.

If UCF moves to ahead of NIU in the BCS standings, then NIU gets shut out of a BCS slot unless they jump to #12 or higher.

I personally don't think a win over SMU on the road is enough to overcome an NIU win over BG at a neutral site.

Not at this late date. If they win the MACC. Besides I want to go to New Orleans anyway.

Yea I don't think anyone is wishing ill on UCF but I'd like NIU to have enough breathing room that a few bad ballots dont make put UCF one spot ahead of NIU..

An undefeated team has never finished outside of the top 12 in the final BCS standings. However, NIU very well could be the first in the final season of the BCS. It is sad how little respect we are getting.

But if NIU wins the MAC CCG, UCF won't pass NIU.

Remember that only computer rankings that ignore margin of victory are allowed in the BCS computer ranking, and the computers will like Bowling Green more than SMU, so if both win, by whatever margin, NIU improves their advantage over UCF on the computer rankings. And even if there are some voters who will perversely reward UCF more for beating up on a bowl-ineligible team than on NIU for beating a substantially stronger (than SMU) Bowling Green team, there will also be some voters who exercise common sense and vote the other way.

If UCF was playing a school with the kind of record that the computers were programmed to like, there might be reason for concern. If Margin of Victory came into the computer rankings, there might be reason for concern. But if NIU wins the championship game, they are going to get an extra buffer from the computers.

The coaches poll seems dead set on keeping NIU out of the BCS. The Harris poll is coming around, but just barely. I wouldn't be surprised to see NIU drop in both, even with a win, just because the voters can.
