Yeah, but they did what they needed to on a tough night against the elements.

I think it will be Winston, Mariota, JFF McCarron and the running back from BC.

Lynch ends up one of the best 4th team all Americans ever, unless Winston's legal troubles go the wrong way.

Speaking of Winston he's not doing anything to help himself out from a character perspective. How can you be dealing with what he's going through and get involved with other players that are damaging property with BB guns and then into restaurants stealing a beverage? That's now three police related incidents in the past year.

Apparently, not a very smart dude. Not going to look good when he's sitting on the stand.

BTW, Mariota is toast.

I don't think Mariota will win, but he'll still be invited.

At this point I think McCarron gets the career achievement award or the BC running back comes out of nowhere to win it. I think Winston would have won it if not for his legal troubles.

Whoever that QB is at Bama will win it. It's not about the best or most valuable player any more (if it ever was).

AJ McCarron? I hope not. He's not that good.

Not going to happen. Some of his numbers are going to be less than last season when he didn't even sniff NYC. His completion pct is down. Completions are down. TD passes are down. Even his rushing yards are down (granted on fewer attempts). His QB rating is a little higher but largely benefitted by his yards per completion which is more of a product of his skill players around him and his four less INT's.

And what he has done better this year he has essentially padded his stats against weak competition. When the schedule got tougher his offense broke down. Oregon's wins have come against teams with a combined 40-60 record and one of those was a I-AA. There is no argument to be made for Mariota to be in the Top 3 or 4. Not even the top 10 in my opinion. Lynch has had a far superior season and done so against - frankly - equally as good competition. The only reason he will get any votes at all is because of how ESPN prostitutes for the BCS conferences.

Before the Stanford game it was being talked about like it was his to lose, of course much has changed since then, but to not even be invited would be a plummet from grace.

So what are you thinking McCarron? Any chance the Williams kid could win it? With just 107 yards against Syracuse he'd jump to 4th all time on the single season record list.

I disagree, McCarron could win it and he's certainly not the best player in football, but who would you have given it to over Manziel? Or RGIII? Or Newton? You occasionally see the career award which is what it would be for McCarron, but I don't think you can patently say it's no longer about being the best player.

RE: OT: Jordan Lynch tonight
Is the Heisman for the "best" player or the "most valuable?" There is a difference.

I know in MLB that has been a issue. A comple stat filler player on a lousy team will generally be overlooked for a really good player on a contender. The writers always fall back on the word "valuable."

This is what the Heisman guidelines are: "The outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity. Winners epitomize great ability combined with dillegence, perseverance, and hard work."

I don't see the idea that the player has to be the most "valuable" or anything like that. That RB at Boston College is crazy good, as is Lynch. Overall, Winston has been fantastic. AJ is really good, but he doesn't excel at anything except for "leadership."
