RE: 2 legit to quit
http://www.oregonlive.com/vikings/index....portl.html
After the Vikings went 3-8 in his first season, Glanville cut 17 scholarship players, calling the moves necessary to bring the program closer in line with his standards. But the move sent a disturbing message to other players, who felt as if there was no safety net for anybody who didn't meet expectations.
Glanville considered stepping down before the start of his second season because of a dispute with support staff within the athletic department and accusations that 12 players had received preferential treatment at a local athletic training facility in violation of NCAA rules. A ruling on the eve of PSU's opener against Western Oregon cleared the players of any wrongdoing, but the incident widened the rift in the department.

Or your basketball team...whichever perennial loser he's feeling like.

I think it's safe to say most of the MAC, and nearly everyone on this board, is pulling for NIU.
Does it make some of you NIU folks feel even better about your program to take potshots at an easy target? I spend half my day out here in the Southwest defending NIU to the Big 12 snobs, then have to read the childish, snarky remarks directed at my school.
C'mon. You guys are better than that, or at least, you should be.

So what do EMU fans think about the possibility of Glanville as HC? Do we know of any potentially better options at this point?

If I were an EMU fan, I would prefer Haywood or Mangino instead.

Haywood caught lightning in a bottle and then split from Miami. Don't trust him. Although, chances of catching lightning in a bottle at EMU are not nearly as great.
Mangino has too much baggage and after what caused English to get dismissed, it would be hard for EMU to justify hiring him.
Glanville is a clown.
EMU needs, IMHO, a successful DII coach to come on board. They need somebody with head coaching experience that has shown the ability to build a program with limited resources.

No offense but some of the names coming out for your coaching search are just ridiculous so I think some criticism is expected. Mangino? Haywood? Glanville? Miami also has an opening and I don't hear any names like that being dropped for their search.

They're not coming from EMU sources.

Definitely noted but still odd that those names are leaking out.

How about Houston Nutt and Gene Chizik to Miami and Eastern? With Terry Bowden already at Akron, the MAC could also be known as the SEC North.

Does that mean we gotta start scheduling Indiana State in November?

Shhhh!!! That's a top SEC secret, playing "patsies" in November (the Florida Gators notwithstanding).

I wish all the best for EMU, but I do honestly think that your football program, and even more so its fan base, are too far gone to operate within an FBS conference at this time. Its not fair to the other conference members at this point. An exit to FCS with the right to re-enter would be the most sensible option if we were all being upfront about the issue.
I would love for you guys to wake up next season with a 6-6 record and 15,000 TRUE fans in your stands, but the last decade tells us this is most likely not happening in the immediate future...

Explain how it's "not fair" to the rest of the conference. I'm sure you weren't saying the same things about your own school's football team when they were atrocious not too long ago.
And it's not the most sensible thing to do, as we'd have to remove all of our sports from the MAC as well. While we aren't productive in football (granted it's the biggest revenue sport), we are very productive and competitive in most other sports. Again, it would be like everyone wanting to kick NIU out of the MAC because your basketball team is an abomination and has been for quite a while...not gonna happen.
Frankly, this is a dead horse you're beating on in this thread. It's not gonna happen in the foreseeable future, so live with it.
