Others jumped right over this, but JMU would be a great home for Ruffin. I'm still amazed things changed so quickly down there in Greenville. I recently worked over in that area of the state for about five years and it appeared that he was well received.

Agreed. We could do a lot worse than Ruffin. Seems like he runs a clean program and an exciting offense. I am not sure what ECU was thinking with this one.

The fans didn't want this. A poll on our most popular board was 75% in favor of keeping Ruff.

RE: Potential HC Candidates...
Seasons Greetings to all of JMU Nation. As you know, I am in full retirement mode after serving my last years as AD emeritus at East Carolina University. However, that doesn't mean I am dead. Your very own Jeff Compher and I have weekly dialogue regarding the direction of the program. I can confirm that Everett Withers is on our short list of head coach candidates and will admit that part of the reason is that Jon Boy Alger has rebuffed my efforts to support JMU's move to Division 1-A collegiate tackle football. Jon Boy has shown he is out of his league when it comes to leading an athletic department and is content with taking no action at all regarding conference realignment. What a shame! James Madison University is a sleeping giant and he refuses to take advantage of opportunities that would elevate the national prestige of your beloved institution.

I've provided persistent conference realignment advice and motivation for your President. I've offered a blueprint of how to move the Football program out of the FCS abyss. I've helped facilitate the rebirth of our old ECAC South basketball rivalry and even threw him a bone with the 2017 tackle football game in Greenville. His response? Do nothing.

I am enjoying retirement and part of the reason is I don't have to deal with myopic University presidents anymore when trying to implement change for the good of the cause. Jon Boy Alger's latest snafu just confirms my belief that just doesn't get it. He hangs his hat on being Mr. Diversity & Inclusion, yet he has allowed his very own campus to censor references to Christmas in name and in song. I guess diversity and inclusion only counts for the things on his agenda. Like most red-blooded Americans I celebrate Christmas as a reminder of the birth of Jesus Christ. That's right! The Son of God. The Savior of all mankind.
CHRISTmas.
Jon Boy Alger has completely lost my respect. Not just as a President, but as a man. You would be best served to remove him from office.

To the rest of JMU Nation, Merry Christmas!
Your buddy,
Terry Holland

Mendinghall calls his own defensive plays. Ruff is Assistant Head Coach which is one of the top positions on any staff. ECU was his dream job though so certainly a step down. I do hope he lands another head job and really makes Compher and people here look like even bigger idiots than they do today.
