They are the best non-BCS football program out there, but travel arrangements would suck, especially on their end.
They are also one of the most renegade athletic departments out there. Gavitt's 18 team two division umbrella alliance is looking better and better all the time.

Thus far the league has not announced any details about either deal. Just that it will be an increase over the last deals. I would say that the league officials know what they are doing based on the following facts:
we still have the bcs
we have the best bb league that has ever been put together
we are getting a larger fb tv deal
we are getting a larger bb tv deal
When everyone one else was panicking 3 years ago, including most on these boards, the BE was making moves behind the scenes to put the conference in a better position to earn some revenue. It would probably be wise to wait until we have all of the details before we complain about the league so much.

When it comes down to pretty much anything concerning basketball, Coach Gavitt is a wise man, a very wise man indeed.

you're right, but the limited info that has been released has all been bball.
Also, why no dollar figures? The other conf bombard us with the financial details of their contracts. Its probably nothing, but still a little worrisome.

Re: even numbers
Lolly Popp Wrote:18 is an even number that sounds better than 17. You know the basketball schools will not allow another football member unless another basketball member is also added. And you also know that a football only member would be a disaster waiting to happen. The only way to do it right is by going to 18.
You still implying that we need basketball schools. Football schools don't need any of the basketball schools to be a good in basketball but basketball schools NEED football schools You can't subtract a single football school without KILL the Big East completely but take out ALL 8 basketball schools and the Big East still survive and still be the top-6 football/basketball conference in the country.

Considering this is the same league that was "blindsided" by the ACC, Boston College, Tire Bowl and Navy I'm going to wait for an official announcement for the football deal.

The BE will never go to 17. The BB schools will never allow a majority of votes on the FB side.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: The Big East and CBS Sports agreed Tuesday to a multiyear contract extension to broadcast conference basketball games through the 2012-13 season. An average of 14 Big East games will be shown, beginning with the 2007-08 season. Women's games also will be featured. In 2005, the Big East expanded to 16 schools, becoming the largest Division I-A conference in the nation. Member schools include Cincinnati, Connecticut, DePaul, Georgetown, Louisville, Marquette, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Providence, Rutgers, St. John's, Seton Hall, South Florida, Syracuse, Villanova and West Virginia. . . . Saint Louis center Ian Vouyoukas withdrew from the NBA draft on Wednesday. Vouyoukas entered the draft in April but didn't hire an agent. The deadline to withdraw from the June 28 draft is Sunday. After a 9-21 season in 2004-05, Saint Louis improved last season to 16-13 overall and 10-6 in its first season in the Atlantic 10 Conference, tying for third place. The 2005-06 season was also a breakout for the 6-foot-10 Vouyoukas, who set a team record with 55 blocks. He worked out for the Toronto Raptors in late May and attended the pre-draft camp.

For a conference to be qualified as a division 1-A conference, a minimum of 8 division 1-A schools in that conference playing each other or the conference be reclassified to lower division. The lower division will guarantee that conference to be label as "mid-major" especially when you are not BCS club. Recruits will be very hard. You trying to sell blue chip kids to come your programs so they can play in a "mid-major" are tough sell.

Pardon me for asking, Is it possible for you guys to have 2 different contracts? Sound like to me, that abc and espn will be carrying your fb and cbs will be airing your bb. Would these not be separate contracts. I have never known stations to combine contracts from different stations. Not to say that it is not possible but hard to believe. NO I am not trying to start nothing either.
