yes. they have had their chances to look good a cpl. times this season but muffed them. I watched that game yesterday. what a bumbling mess. any kind of good offensive effort and they could have won..I have liked wku the last cpl. years but they didnt look that good either. at one point txst had thrown 7 passes and completed 1 to one of their own guys and 4 to wku. and for such a big showdown game there should have been a big crowd, no matter what the weather..I think they can beat troy, but the bowl reps. have left the building.

Unless you where there then you don't have a clue about the conditions.. it was cold, it was misting and a 17mph whipping wind which all played a part with passing.

I don't know what you think "looking good" is but when you hold a team to 2.2 yards Per Play and a total of 130 yards and you hold a running team to .7 yards per carry ....

that's looking good no matter how you look at it

While the Topper offense struggle to score off the turnovers that offense did rack up 321 rushing yards the 2nd most (most yards per carry) by 8 yards in 9 less carries than TXST gave up to ASU

that's looking good no matter how you look at it

Egg Bowl is irrelevant to Shreveport unless the SEC gets only one in the BCS and that's unlikely.

If NIU prefers playing a 5 loss Boise State then I think you can scratch the Cajuns from Mobile.

If Shreveport ends up being in play I think the factors become:
1. Opponent for New Orleans. If CUSA is sending MTSU or FAU or Marshall, Cajuns probably say meh and head north. If CUSA is sending Tulane or Rice the Cajuns will find it too tempting to face a school from the I-10 recruiting corridor.
2. Hud's future. If this is his year to cash in playing in New Orleans makes better sense. It's early enough in the cycle that he can finish out with the team. That becomes less likely the further out you go into bowl season. First rule of picking a bowl pool is pick against teams losing their coach.

The game between ASU and WKU isn't for 2nd place in the SBC.

WKU already has 3 conference losses, ASU has 1.

Even if WKU wins next Saturday, ASU is already #2 in the Sun Belt.

Being 2nd in the SBC means NOTHING...well at least it didn't the past 2 seasons because the 2nd place school was left home without a bowl to go to.

I don't expect that to happen this year

Last year was a true anomaly. Liberty was going to take the winner of AState MTSU until Iowa State came available. By that point the Cajuns had already been invited and accepted New Orleans. I-Bowl had already invited ULM who had accepted. Once the Liberty blew league rules required AState be placed so that meant Mobile and the only thing left was Detroit but WKU had already done the prep work and developed a relationship with WKU and preferred WKU. The Toppers were the only team to not finish first or second to make a bowl for the league.

ULL had already been invited and accepted New Orleans. AState received the Mobile bid as soon as we clinched. The only available slot was Beef O'Brady played in Florida and there was a Florida team available that had 8 wins vs WKU's 7.

I doesnt matter what the weather was like. the fans and supporters knew what was at stake and should have rallied out for their team. other games around the region had big crowds. in fact the baylor/ok state game had more than the listed stadium capacity.

Let me see how I can put this without someone (WKU/TXST fans) taking it as a put down...

Western is not ok state and TXST is not Baylor and there was no BSC bowl at stake for either of us..a bowl maybe but it's not the same. For the conditions there was a decent turn out for this game

Like I said...you don't have a clue to what you're talking about if you don't think weather plays a huge role in it

When we become a P5 team that routinely has 41-56K fans in attendance and an udefeated record with a #4 ranking on the line vs another P5 1 loss #10 ranked team maybe you'll see that kind of turnout.

There's decades of fan apathy at TXST so I think it was a very good turnout considering the weather conditions. If it had stayed in the 60s-70's, hell even 50's with sun, I think the number is higher. This team is going to have to put in a string of good seasons to get the average fan (as opposed to die hards) to come to games like this in adverse conditions. A winning tradition is one thing TXST football does not have and it will take a lot of years to get people (especially the locals) to care.

UTs mantle falls far and wide. It's something that will take years to throw to the wayside.

I agree man. As much as I hate to say it, I don't want to embarrass ourselves and this conference by some how sneaking into a bowl. Give us another year to build and them we'll see.

1.) Go Daddy is out for UL period without NIU.
2.) NO Bowl will not excite Hudspeth are Cajun fans if it is not Marshall, Rice or Tulane. FAU and MTSU are not sellers in Lafayette. But it may be the only sure invitation on the table Nov. 30th.
3.) The Independence Bowl needs to address several questions...Would the ACC accept a Sun Belt opponent?......what are the willing to compensate UL or ASU for that matter?....Will they be ready to extend in invitation by Nov. 30th.?
I agree. I will be very disappointed if we play FAU or MTSU in the New Orleans Bowl. Marshall in the NOB would be a nice match-up. I also agree that there is no way the we go to Mobile to play any MAC opponent other than an undefeated NIU. Too many variables to speculate on the Independence Bowl just yet.
