RE: JMU being JMU again
Let's not place the cart before the horse.

JMU isn't going anywhere without an invitation from an FBS league and they aren't making a declaration of FBS until they have that invitation accepted.

CUSA is very unlikely. In fact I wouldn't be stunned to learn that ODU publicly announced support for JMU to muddy the water at JMU. If they announce Sun Belt or MAC fans will be wondering what happened to CUSA.

MAC I don't believe will offer JMU unless UMass agrees to join all sports and that's a deal that would take some time to do if it can even be done.

I'll be highly surprised if SBC passes JMU up if they are ready and willing.

JMU being JMU again

The SBC could be offering a football only invite also. This would allow New Mexico State to become a full member and placement in the west division leaving JMU and Idaho with football only invites. IMHO, JMU would probably jump at this and wait for a full MAC or USA invite to happen in the future. One of our two oly sports members would have to move to the east division.

East
Georgia Southern
Georgia State
App State
Troy
South Alabama
JMU-Football only

West
ASU
Louisiana
ULM
Texas State
New Mexico State
Idaho-Football only

UTA-Oly Sports
UALR-Oly Sports

Our AD has said that we don't want a football only invite. We want all sports under one umbrella as much as possible.

Sounds like JMU sure has a lot of stipulations for a small market program out of the footprint that has missed he playoffs 4 of the last 5 years.

Why not give it to them, if they'll come on board. Full membership for JMU and NMSU. It's a win win for hoops, and a championship game in football.
If Missouri State want's in bring them in too even if it unbalances the conference. The best thing they can do is have enough programs in the conference to preserve a conference championship in light of future defections. Fourteen is ideal.
My fellow Georgia peeps might not like this idea so much, and it's far fetched presently, but things do change there's no reason not to have a contingency.
Kennesaw State is merging with Southern Polytechnic just eight miles away creating an institution of over 30,000 students in the northern Atlanta suburbs. They start football in 2015. Who thinks a school that big is going to stay FCS. Fifth Third Bank bought the naming rights to their 8,000 but expandable up to 20,000 seat women's soccer stadium.
With Georgia State's improvement, hopefully their attendance will swing up too. It's almost too juicy of a media market for CUSA or the AAC to pass up at some point, and if KSU were already in play that'd be one less defection to be concerned with replacing, and still retain a geographical balance to the conference.

IMO, Idaho isn't long term, at some point NDSU, Montana, and Montana State, and maybe Youngstown are going to move.

The more the better !

I agree completely.

What better way for ODU to attempt to stifle JMU's growth and reach in the region. Plus, it sends an tacit message .... true or not, that JMU is looking up to ODU to help them out. If it were to backfire, worst thing that ODU has to contend with is a close travel partner and continuation of an instate rivalry.

Some would say that ECU may have similarly sent out false smoke signals to some of the Appalachian folks, that they shared some interest in pulling the Mountaineers into CUSA.

It would be a good ploy by ODU to try that. They are pretty much making it known they are at a higher level.

I sort of think that JMU's constant posturing is going to hurt their image in the end. Fans will never be satisfied with any league but the MAC or CUSA. If they had played all three leagues up and made all sound good, it makes them sound wanted.

Note that our administration hasn't made any sort of public announcement of any kind about any of the three leagues being discussed. The feasibility report compared potential financial results from membership in each, but made no recommendations. The FAQ talked about academic compatibility, but didn't name any conferences. That hardly seems to me to fit the definition of "constant posturing".

Pro-FBS fans on these discussion boards have debated the matter almost into the ground, but we do not speak for any official in the school.

You gotta read between the lines my friend. Having been through an anti FBS administration and a pro FBS administration, the clues clearly point to their position.
