Wouldn't be a huge deal. The NCAA allowed a conference champ with a losing record to go one year.

Hypothetically if UTSA beats La Tech, Tulane beats Rice and UTSA advances to Championship game and beats either ECU or Marshall, CUSA would still hold UTSA out of the Liberty bowl. If that scenario actually happened I think there would be massive uproar. It might be the first time the actual winner has not represented CUSA. Would they send the loser in UTSA's place? What If its a future AAC. I don't even want to speculate considering its still a lot of what ifs

Being that UTSA is still in transition to FBS, there shouldn't be any uproar because the fact is UTSA isn't fully transitioned till after this year which then makes them bowl eligible. The loser would go to the Liberty most likely and there are alot of stipulations (of not enough bowl eligible teams) that UTSA will have to fall into to play in a bowl game this year.

If not mistaken, North Texas went to a bowl game (New Orleans) with a 5-7 record, unless that was a typo. It was a good while back.
2001 UNT was (5-7, 5-1) and was the first team in history to make a bowl game after starting a season 0-5. North Texas beat Middle Tennessee, who had a winning record to win the conference. This was the first season of Sun Belt sponsored football and was the beginning of a 26 game conference unbeaten streak for North Texas.

It was the first time since William and Mary in 1970 a team had gone to a bowl with a losing record.
