This game will be great for the state of WV if you ask me. Marshall can get 1-1 deals with some decent mid-majors at the least and they average close to 30K. Now they are giving a 5-2 series for the increase of 8,000 fans or so for 2 games and they give up revenue for 5 games. Sounds like WVU is winning to me?

I understand WVU fans our pissed about being forced to play Marshall. I think Marshall would atleast be a decent RPI game. To me its good for the state of West Virginia, a sell out game with a nice gate, plus its going to be on national TV. I understand this being a lose-lose situation for WVU, but if you are the better team then you will win regardless. You never know it could be a year where Marshall is a top 25 team coming in and it could be a quality win for West Virginia. In my opinion you get a spot filled for OOC and its not a horrible opponent. I don't see the beef still.

You have to understand the mentality of some WVU fans. Marshall has been agitating for this series for years, but WVU has always been of the opinion that they would only play on their terms. Marshall wanted to dictate different terms and their fans were pretty obnoxious about it. Of course, many WVU fans returned their animosity blow for blow. So their is an intense hatred between the 2 schools, for the most part. Some West Virginians, like myself, root for both schools. I want to see WVU win the game, but I think it's good for the state. Especially if this game gets picked up by ESPN to kickoff their Sunday night broadcsts. Free publicity never hurts.

For Marshall fans, it's a bit of an inferiority complex too. WVU is THE STATE UNIVERSITY. Marshall is more of a local thing. Outside of Huntington, not much of the state really pays any attention to the Herd. WVU is their team. That's pretty much what it's all about.

I agree with just about everything you say Bitcruncher, and I love the Blue and Gold also, but year in and year out count how many West Virginians are on each roster and I guarantee most years Marshall has more. Marshall is a great representative of our home state as well. What do you think of the - THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY - that is bull crap.

WVU got a pretty sweet deal if you ask me. This will be a national T.V game and more exposure for both schools. 5-2 series...how can you cry over that....If you are better, you will win. You even get home field advantage in most years.

"2 FB games the same time @ WVU & @ MU make more money for the state than just one WVU-Mu game in Morgantown....just do the MATH. With both team's home avg, Mu 27k + WVU 57k = 84k. That's about 24k more fans eating, buying gas, buying tickets, paying sales taxes, etc.

Now compare how much the state loses when the game is played AT MARSHALL! If Mu sells out the 40k SRO seats, then that's 44k paying customers LESS than if 2 games were played that weekend.

Again, this series is BAD for the state of WV. It's BAD for taxpayers! It's very selfish on Marshall's part to demand this game be played every year and it's really SELFISH to demand any game be played in a 40k seat stadium in Huntington. Dollar wise the state loses big bucks." Loyal2WVU

WVU should be playing Marshall. Some WVU fans remind of UK fans in this respect, I'm sorry to say. The in-state rival games really should be played. Much like UK vs. UofL, it's the only show in town.

You say this based on what ? There is NO reason to play them.
WVU vs anyone @ home is the only game in the state.
Two games ago in the WVU vs moou contest....it was 1923 (WVU won 81-0).

PusherT Wrote:I mean really the only team this series helps is the Green Herd and it hurts WVU on 3 different poiints

1. Playing at Marshall small stadium loses WVU extra $$. The games should all be played at Morgentown simply because the bigger stadium.
2. WVU could have set up matchups with Pac 10,Big 12,SEC,ACC teams intead of playing Marshall

3. God forbid the unthinkable happens, WVU would really be upset then :shhh:

Nah....The Hillbillies shouldn't have to play someone they are guaranteed to lose to.....THE NERVE!...lol... ;-)
