When will AL.com give us a final list of early state basketball signees?

I think I saw someone on here mention that the early signing period doesn't end until the 20th...so probably sometime after that.

If not for UAT's jealousy of Regions Field I seriously doubt the new baseball stadium would be in play.

I think that's a hard argument to make. They've had gymnastics NC's in recent years and have sold out the basketball arena for gymnastics. They've won national championships in softball, men's golf, and women's golf within the last 3 years. The basketball arena underwent major renovation a few years back. They just replaced the women's bb coach who wasn't successful. I understand they have a nice softball complex and have refurbished the old gymnasium for women's bb. And now the baseball field is being substantially upgraded as well.

A coworker told me that their bb team has the 3rd most SEC wins in the last three years. UK would have more not sure who was 2nd. It seems like they're taking some of the megabucks they have to upgrade the entire athletic program. Not saying that's the best use of the $$ just that there is support for things besides football.

Mostly side-effects of having all possible advantages - financial, recruiting, and historical. The WBB coach was replaced when he had to be. The old coach got the job because of past ties to the university, not because he was even close to the best candidate - he was an administrator who had never coached before. If the golf teams (and some others) had middling success no one would notice. The exposure as championship contenders is what draws peoples' attention. And that, in turn, puts more pressure on the other non-revenue sports. Also, because of that, UAT is expected to make coaching changes when needed and hire top coaches since money is not supposed to be an issue - things they could do more at their leisure than in the past.

Not to say this unique to UAT just that its just the nature of things. I suspect non-revenue sports get much more attention outside of the south in places like Duke, where football, until recently was an after-thought, or Stanford where winning the yearly national all-sports awards consistently is important to them or other places where they expect to compete yearly for championships outside of football.

Not saying there isn't support just that UAT will always be about football with the other sports expected to carry their weight with much less support. It takes more than throwing money at a sport and being successful - see men's basketball.

The news is old, and how would that be a smart choice for him? UAB has been to the NCAA tournament more recently than WF. But I don't why any of us should even try to reason with you. Your motives are clear.

Although many hate "star" ratings because of the perceived flaws in those systems. My favorite one is a composite that includes rivals, scout, espn. For what it is worth, UAB currently 1 - 3.5 stars and 3 - 2 stars, Haas is a 4 star.

As stated they are three basic systems for ranking. points times signees, big time only (above 3 star recruits) and average the stars


The rest of this post is simply my guess:

Points X signees - UAB has 13. 5 points and probably make the bottom of top 25

Big time only - UAB has 2 recruits that counts a 4 star and 3.5 star. Near miss top 30 or so. I.E., UAT has three on this level rated bottom of top 25

Average - UAB averages - 2.7 stars and would not be close to a top 25.

IMHO- it depends on rating system but in most we are close but not there yet. But Hell its is great to be talking about being top 25. Last time I remember is Murray first (thanks to Rah-Rah) - Ransom and Bass

One big factor at UAT is money they are currently making. When Saban arrived the athletic operating budget was 60 million or so. This past year they bought in over 105 million in revenue. They increased the operating budget to 75 or so. the rest they are spending on facilities.(very smart - revenue could fall) Football has already bought the "best" of everything, i.e, swimming lanes with the fountain.

I went to the UAB soccer game and they not only had a doubled stadium size but have a 2 million dollar replay screen for fragging soccer, softball has probably best stadium in country, a brand new tennis facility and golf has a joint interest in golf course that they spent several million to bring to PGA level, they spent 30 million on basketball practice facility. The baseball(at least a major upgrade) they promised several years ago when changed baseball coaches. They may - like us play some games at regions during construction(2015)
