RE: Where do we go from here?
We have a new weight room, new training room, new athletic academic center, and a new football facility and a new practice field on the way. We can recruit and win in Legion Field. It's sad that there are kids that we do not bother to recruit because we cannot get them into school that we have to line up and play against.

The OCS will come when we prove we can put people in it. Right now we cannot.

When are they going to "officially" announce the new football facility and practice field? Are there any renderings to view? I agree that will be a huge step for our program.

Facilities are just as important to JUCO as HS players who want "to become the best they can become" at their choice of school. How good can UAB become by being dependent on getting mainly the "leftovers" who other schools don't want or can't make a better offer? Yes, we are PLANNING to build better facilities - when the funding is raised and becomes available - sometimes in the (we hope, NEAR) future.

I want proof too...........something you can actually show to recruits, AND pinpoint when it will be completed.

100% agreed. All this "embarrassed" talk in the game thread is stupid. The team and coaches should be embarrassed. Why should fans be embarrassed. The fans didn't lose the game and play crappy. All they did was choose the team to root for. If you are embarrassed by your decision, fix it. Find another team, no one is forcing you to root for a bad team. Quit being embarrassed.

* Drop to FCS
* Kill the program entirely
* Clean house. Again.

Personally, I'm for No. 3. Lane Kiffin, or another similar type coach, would do wonders for the program.

He would bring in interest, bring in MONEY, and eventually I think will get to that magical number 6 in the wins department.

Coach mcGee i'm sure is a great guy. Ellis Johnson is a great guy.

Neil Callaway is a great guy. But are they fit to be head coaches?

And did I say I miss Watson?

wow I never thought I would put a blazer fan on ignore but you just opened a huge can of stupid

The Lane Kiffin comment deserves an arrest (lol). If you are going to get a fired coach, get Tommy Bowden. He never had a losing season in his coaching career, and the family is familiar with Birmingham.

I'd like to know these things, too. Think that Mr. Mackin would enlighten those who wish to know in this regard? Guess there's only one way to find out, eh?

That is what Paul Bryant said. I am not on his side, or yours, with that opinion.

My opinion is, improved attendance will never happen until a new on campus stadium is built.

For you or Paul Bryant to say that UAB does not deserve an on campus stadium unless attendance is improved is ridiculous.

yes and no
yes
facilities are important but juco players spend the last 2 years playing football in low grade facilities , very low attendance (lower then uab by far ) they are not worship like an hs players
no
most juco players got big peace of humble pies the day they learn they cannot play division 1 football and they need to go play juco
after 2 year of juco ball ,,,even the low standard facilities from UAB doesnt look so bad after spending 2 year in middle of nowhere

many hs players come from nicer facilities then the average juco and they think they will play in league (aka nfl)
UAB is rarely a choice for them if they have many offers

RE: Where do we go from here?
The athletic department will announce it in due time when then financing is put together. Without going into great detail it is being wrapped in with some other projects. Ray Watts is a major reason it will happen. No one is gonna give you proof (not do they owe anybody) any more than they will for the hundreds of other projects that are out there that are not ready to be announced at this time campus wide. They tell recruits what is going on but the issue being able to recruit players. We cold be playing in a one hundred million dollar on campus facility but if we cannot get the kid in school and all of our opponents can it does us no good. This has also been a big issue with basketball as well. Our pool of players we can recruit is much much much smaller.

Stadium and the BOT are the least of the worries right now. Right now we gotta get a defense.

How are we going to do that if we have woeful facilities, the smallest budget, and all thes academic restrictions? I admit im more of a UAB basketball fan but I would love to have a quality football program. Please instead of getting all bent out of shape explain why people shouldn't seriously question why we would continue with football. If we are looking at two win seasons far into the future, cant beat Troy, cant compete against mid level programs, and obviously cant use football to get us into a quality basketball league.... seriously why not try to be great at the few things we can do? Just asking..

We press on and persevere.

We ease up on the APR restrictions and quit sanctioning ourselves.

McGee focuses on defense and recruiting better defensive players and coaches.

We improve facilities the best we can, as we can.

....my biggest concern is that football is beginning to hurt basketball, and basketball is my first love, and the sport where UAB can really make a splash nationally.

RE: Where do we go from here?
When "we" finally got a chance to hire the coach of "our"choosing, there was a lot of hope put into Coach McGee, I being one. Unlike some on this board, i did not expect a bowl last year, and a conference championship this year. But I did expect improvement. Right now, we are not getting improvement. We are getting worse each season and each game. We are in the weakest conference we have ever been in, and we are playing as bad as we have ever played. Sorry, but as of today, I dont see how we are going to get any better.
