That isn't coachspeak, because every coach in America doesn't say that when the take over the train wreck UAB was.

You're right. No one would have been upset with the hire if he came and said the players are not very good, we have stinky facilities and I don't know if myself or anyone for that matter can win here inside of five years. But, hey, ya'll keep coming to watch the games.

Exactly, MB.

I don't understand you, blazers9911. Are you saying we have no hope and you've given up on any chance of winning in the next few years? Are you just mad that McGee put so much stock in AB only to have it fail and him go back to JP?

You seem upset that I told an Arkansas fan that expectations would be high next year because we have a veteran team. Remember, high expectations here are not that high (6 wins and a crap bowl).

Sure, we all hoped for 6 wins or better this year, and some people expected more. We're all disappointed that it hasn't gone better, but is it unrealistic to expect 6 wins next year? Most of us don't seem to be ready to fire McGee at this point, even with the disappointing results. Don't you think that will change if we tank next year?

No, McGee didn't have to go the opposite way either MB. He could have simply not elaborated on the subject.

Yes, I am saying there is no hope the next couple of years. I think it is the dumbest thing in the world to play a guy for essentially a year and a half and then turn to a senior(who you have benched several times already) with 5 games remaining. Let's just say Perry wins 3 of the next 4 games. Woohoo! We got to 5 wins with a guy who won't be here next year, and we still didn't make a bowl. Is that supposed to excite me?

High expectations are 6 wins? In what world? And our veterans have done little around here so far. I thought we might get to 6 wins this year. Now, I don't see it happening for at least a couple of years.

I'm just tired of McGee spouting off. I want him to produce results and stop talking. That's what I want. I said he needs 4 years minimum when he got here, and my opinion hasn't change. I'm not calling for his head, and I won't be after next season either, even if he goes winless. I am less than impressed with what he has done this year however.(I thought we looked better last year if we are being honest)

I know you know UAB's history, but just in case, here's a recap of our last 10 seasons:

2004: 7 wins, Hawai'i Bowl
2005: 5 wins
2006: 3 wins, fire coach
2007: 2 wins
2008: 4 wins
2009: 5 wins
2010: 4 wins
2011: 4 wins, fire coach
2012: 3 wins
2013*: 2 wins with 4 to play (max possible: 6 in reg. season)

In that world, our world, Blazerland, 6 wins is a VERY high expectation, if we're being honest.

High expectations are high expectations to me. We aren't Alabama and expecting 14-0 seasons, but getting to 8 wins playing in our conference is not unreasonable. I'd say 6 wins is a reasonable expectation. Just because we haven't done it in quite some time does not mean we should set that as a high expectation.

So, you said there is no hope the next couple of years. Yet, you say 6 wins is a reasonable expectation, and 8 wins in our conference is not unreasonable. You contradict yourself.

Expectations are what is expected. Do you expect 8 wins next year (since that isn't unreasonable)? Or do you stick with the "there is no hope" idea?

When McGee was hired, he came in and gave the kind of "pep talk" to team and fans that coaches give. At that time, he didn't know the players individually nor perhaps did he think the facilities were deficient as they are. Perhaps if he had been more knowledgeable of these, he might have passed on the job as some veteran HCs might have for all we know.

Coach McGee has one full class of recruits his staff brought in and his second will be signed Feb 5th, 2014. At least two QBs were recruited by the Callaway staff and both left without ever dressing out for a game. How many others from that group left as well? We gave Callaway enough time to fill his roster with his own recruits and I believe McGee is due the same benefit of time and personnel.

There is no hope the next couple of years in my opinion. That hope lied with AB and the defense improving. McGee just shattered AB.

I'm saying 6 wins is a reasonable expectation for any program. You have to win half you games, and 8 of them are against teams you see regularly. I'm saying 8 wins is a high expectation for UAB, based off the same stuff you just posted earlier.

I think the team is screwed in the short term. We don't have a defense, and now we don't have a QB. You normally need at least one of those two in order to win.

Who said to fire McGee?

We have a QB. JP currently is the starting QB.

The jury is still out on McGee. So far he has shown he can talk a good game, but can't back it up. He is learning on the job and makes lots of mistakes. I think a interesting test at then end of this year if he makes the same mistake that Callaway made and being overly loyal to his staff that isn't getting their job done.

He is getting in his players and many are getting chances to play very early, last year lost of freshman got experience on the field and many are this year as well. A key to his possible success will be how he develops them and their lack of experience is no longer a possible excuse.

Next year will be a very important year for him. From his lack of success against some struggling team this year, I think he still has a long way to go.

Last year I would have given him a C grade for the year.
So far this year I would give him a D grade. Two things keeping it from being an F are the change at defense coordinator and the improvement in the defense in the last game (finally in the 8th game of the year).

Basically I have a man crush on him and everyone else wants to run him out of town. That's how he's doing.

If he's the kind of guy to transfer after getting benched for a few games in favor of a better, senior QB, he probably needs to transfer anyway. That doesn't strike me as a positive contribution to a winning culture.

AB was not the problem this season. He could've done what JP did Saturday. Hell, most of us probably could have done it, minus the 2 point conversion and a couple of nice runs by him. The issue I have is if we are building for the future, we need to play guys who are going to help us in the future, not now.

I still think that one of the worst decisions McGee made all year was pulling AB in the Troy game. He was playing the best I've ever seen him play, and he never reached that level again in my opinion.

I'm just a fan, and my opinion means nothing.
