The problem Pusher, is that SU is as stubborn about its independent lacrosse status as ND is about its fb. Its a goog thing that lacrosse is not a revenue generator like fb or basketball.

Go Cuse. 02-13-banana

Today the game at Stony Brook brought in 8,335 just to see SU-John Hopkins that is better then some MAC/CUSA Basketball attendence ;-)

Thats probably better than most Mac/Cusa basketball attendance. Lacrosse is fast becoming a major sport. Many folks will tell you that MLS is the fifth major league. But I will tell you that the National Lacrosse League has close to the same average attendance as MLS. Both leagues average more than 10,000 fans. MLS has a better TV contract.

I am simply amazed at the attendance of college lacrosse. I would love for the BE to form a league for lacrosse. It would instantly be maybe the best league in the country.

Georgetown plays Virginia Sunday.

Seven Big East teams sponsor Div. I men's lacrosse: Georgetown, Syracuse, Rutgers, Notre Dame, Villanova, St. John's, and Providence. Another five play club lacrosse and are future possibilities for Div. I membership: UConn, DePaul, Marquette, Pitt, and WVU.

The single greatest roadblock to a conference setup is Syracuse, who wants no part of any conference schedule that would threaten their annual ticket to the NCAA semifinals.

This is just dumb. Syracuse's independent schedule is tougher than any Big East schedule could possibly be. By the way, the BE can have a lacrosse league without the Orange. There are more than enough teams.

Cheers,
Neil

Actually there are several roadblocks to the Big East sponsoring lacrosse. Do not blame every problem on Syracuse.

#1 - Villanova, St. John's, and Providence do not give full scholarships yet. They would be doormats in Big East play.

#2 - What if there is a split? Syracuse and Rutgers are better off staying independents until 2010 like they are now.

#3 - Georgetown and Notre Dame are also very good. They won't sacrifice their success for non-committed schools.

#4 - It is very difficult to add new men's sports at the NCAA varsity level these days because of Title IX and funding.

I can honestly say, "Syrupcuse you suck!" with the things I'm hearing out of your mouths now. You are pulling a Notre Shame, only in a sport no one cares about. Shame on you.

Why? If the Big East wants a men's lacrosse league, they have enough teams currently playing to make it so. So why isn't there a league?

Is it possible that maybe, just maybe, the Big East doesn't really want a men's lacrosse league?

All of the BE teams who currently play the sport, except for Syracuse, are currently in another league:

Georgetown - ECAC
Notre Dame - Great Western League
Providence - Metro Atlantic
Rutgers - ECAC
St. John's - ECAC
Villanova - CAA

Other ECAC teams that would probably join a Big East men's lacrosse league:

Loyola (already in the BE for women's lacrosse)
UMass
and possibly even Penn State (although I'd have to think the B10 would have concerns with that).

So why is this all on Syracuse? There are reasons the 6 BE teams above haven't formed a BE men's lacrosse league - travel expenses, commitment to the sport by the university, etc. When the others show they are serious about sport (and so far, only Georgetown really has) then perhaps Syracuse will rethink its position.

Until then - we prefer to play the likes of Johns Hopkins, Virginia, Army/Navy, Colgate, Cornell, Albany, and UMass.

Cheers,
Neil

You came onto this board with an anti-Cuse bias

It is clearly shining through right now--if you knew anything about college lacrosse you would know how uninformed your opinion is.

I agree. But in fairness to Mike, he did take it back for the time being, after Omni layed out the facts. But he does seem to have an anti Cuse bias.
