I have to say Curtis Washington even though he is unproven and this is his first year of eligibility. Washington gets it because we don't have anyone else and the sophomores T.J. Shipes and Laron Smith are still young.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar . . . seriously, who has a center these days? Back to the basket scoring?

This. I kinda figured this thread would be either crickets or folks posting what you did.

Although...did college hoops ever really have a lot of true centers (Georgetown notwithstanding)?

RE: Name your best center
The game has changed a lot since the days prior to the mid-1980s. Most kids from the USA these days, want to play facing the basketbal. Even the big kids want to play either at the high post or on the wing. Today's game is now catered toward guards and small forwards. And, currently, most of the top "true" low post centers come from outside the US borders. Right now, NMSU has two "BIG" centers from Canada (of Indian decent)...7' 5" Sim and 7' 3" Tanveer Bhullar. We also have a 6' 10" center; Tshilidze "Chili" Nephawe from South Africa. And, additionally we have a 6' 10" kids (Pascal Siakam) from Cameroon redshirting this year. Not that any of this matters to SBC fans since NMSU won't be a part of this conference in basketball anytime soon... if ever.

Stuart Lagerson gets the nod. One of our best centers ever, Jordan Reeves, graduated and the 7' center is coming off of a redshirt. If he can pickup the defense the way Reeves did, we'll be okay.

What's a center? I don't think we've seen one since Jeff Foster.

and the guy wkuhilltopperfan mentioned for western is more of a 4 even tho' he's 6'10 and will be listed as a center. aleks rostovs loves facing the hoop. a solid 3 point shooter and a very good free throw shooter. had a really nice game and didn't back down an inch against withey and kansas....as a true freshman. can finish down low with either hand.

this kid is gonna be solid throughout his career. typical hungry euro.

even tho' winston the woof's contention about what's a center is correct....make no mistake. ray hopper works inside out whether it will be through aleks or fant or any of the newcomers.

in a postgame one time he mentioned his goal every game is to make more free throws than the other team attempts. you don't do that by a 3 man weave or chucking treys up every time down the floor. you do it by pounding it.

USA is moving Mychal Ammons to play the 5, but you'd never call him a center at 6'6".
The Butler system that Matthew Graves is installing will feature a lot more passing and motion and Ammons perimeter shooting will be used to great advantage.
The Jags will be able to shoot the three from all five positions.

JJ Davenport 6'7" 295 lb mountain, who hopefully can average around 8ppg and 8rpg and I would be ecstatic. We also have Vieux Kande 6'8" 250lb who are our unknowns.

My favorite Center played at Centenary, Robert Parish AKA The Chief. No doubt if we had not gotten the death penalty UL would have gone on to become a great basketball power as he was coming to join the Cajuns.

Pretty sure he used all his NCAA days, months, and years.

Michael Southal is one of the sweetest, nicest young men I ever met. No doubt he and Pellini have a kindred spirit.
