Basketball and baseball tourneys for 2014
Next year there will be 11 basketball and 11 baseball teams in the Belt. (I am assuming everyone does have baseball, right?) I am wondering how many of those 11 in each sport will make the conference tourney. In the SoCon all 11 this year go to conference tourney.

Top 8 in both sports. Baseball will be double elimination, Basketball will be an 8 team tournament with the 1 and 2 seeds getting a double bye to the Semifinals.

8 of 11 is a good number. It adds some meaning to the regular season. I also like the double byes in basketball, although it is doubtful we will be involved in that.

I am more of a baseball fan than basketball and I am really excited about the SunBelt in baseball. App and Ga. Southern both usually have good baseball. I can really see the SunBelt becoming better and better in baseball. 3-4 bids every year should come from this conference.

Ironically we started the double bye after MTSU won the league running away the last two years, and got beat in the tourney. Now the Blue Raiders have moved to CUSA which uses a more traditional tournament.

The goal is to eliminate the issue of having a team in the play in game, which is becoming quite common of late. We've had one each of the last three years (Technically MTSU was Last 4 At large last year)

Baseball season is going to be very interesting with two more quali9ty programs in the league. I am sure Georgia Southern will have a much tougher road to hoe in league play, but now stands a better shot of an at large. (I am a huge baseball fan. I am planning on previewing every SBC team this year)

As long as you play a double round robin in basketball which I understand we are going to do next year I have no problem with rewarding the top 2 finishers with double byes. They deserve it and we really do want our best teams going to the NCAA tourney. I see the Belt got 2 in last year and I hope the Belt can become a conference with 2 teams in most years. I do understand the SunBelt has some improving to do in basketball (as we certainly do here at Ga. Southern). I am hoping the 12th team we add can help with basketball.

In baseball we are one of the top 6 conferences I think and we have a chance to be top 4 or 5. Baseball should be a sport of strength for the SunBelt.

The next step for SBC baseball is getting a team to Omaha. That would really put us on the map.

And I am not talking about playing a road game at Creighton.

ASU passed out the schedules for next year at our Fall Scrimmage the other day and it had Creighton at home. I immediately walked up to one of the coaches to inquire if it was a home and home deal.

Sadly it didn't.

ULM played a pair of games in Rosenblatt back in 2008 against Creighton, won the Sun Belt regular season title while there thanks to a ULL victory over UNO

I'm glad we get you guys in Jonesboro. Riddle Pace Field is our own personal house of horrors.

By the way, ASU has an absolute ton of pitching this year. Not to mention we get two of our best offensive players back from injury this year. I've heard this might be the best team we've had in the Raffo era.

We have an absolute gauntlet this season in baseball. Have away games at Arkansas, UNC, NC State, Michigan, Clemson, Va Tech, WCU, and Tennessee. Then home games against Wake, and Notre Dame. If we can go .500 in out of conference play, we have some potential to make some SERIOUS postseason noise this year.

This may be the Cajuns best team going into the season since the 2000 Omaha team. We lost one position player, none of the regular pitchers, and added a few pitchers (juco & freshmen) and a couple of position players. I've watched fall ball this year, and our hitters look like they are starting off where they left off last year. With Alabama coming in for a three game series at the "Tigue" this year, we are really looking forward to this season.
