I like the 12 team rotation where we played home and away. I'm not a fan of only playing certain schools once. I'd rather have less non conf games and be able to play everyone twice.

We'll probably see it change to playing 3 teams twice next year when we're back at 14.

I like the fact we don't play on Wed.

And yes, I agree with playing fewer OOC games...especially with our inability to draw 1:1 games

our OOC home schedule would make a baby cry....before baby woke up

I like the fact that Charlotte has 9 nationally televised game in addition to some regional games. There are still a few other games that might get picked up.

Haven't had this kind of tv coverage in years, maybe not ever.

It looks like this year everyone has paired up and will travel together. Looking at my season tickets, every Thursday/Saturday group is UTSA/UTEP, LT/Tulane, ODU/ECU, etc.

We've always been a fan of more OOC games given how weak most Sun Belt RPIs were (us included at times). Given how solid we could, and should, be as a basketball conference going forward, I'd be up for exploring more conference games as a way to introduce new rivalries, etc.

More OOC better Rpi. We can get good teams at Bartow.

Since UTEP has been in CUSA, we have never played everyone home and away. That would have been 22 conference games. I realize the league only recently adopted the football divisions but it's always been play five teams twice, the rest once. No?

The thing with more conference games it lowers the conference's rpi as a whole (assuming the conference has a winning record OOC)

This is our first, and hopefully only, season with 16 teams. Next year will be the first with 14. Just playing everyone in your division twice will be 12 games. Plus another seven games playing everyone in the other division once. That's 19 games. I don't see that happening.

It will be hard to replace the intensity level we had with those games. UTEP was about the only team which gave Memphis fans an uncomfortable pre-game stomach feeling over the last 3, or so years.

But Memphis' schedule is not what this thread is about..... Pimp elsewhere

I'm not a fan of playing on Thursdays instead of Wednesdays.

16 teams is not ideal, or even good for basketball. Hopefully we never have to deal with this again.

I would like to either go to:
A) 19 games, where you play every team 2x in your division, and every other team once, rotating H&A yearly
B) 16 games, you play every team once, and then you play the 3 comparable teams to you from the year before a second time to help the top teams get better RPI games.(1-4 play, 5-8 play, and 9-14 round out the games however necessary)

I would also like the conference tournament to remain at 12 games, and leave 2 teams home every year.

I don't think any of this will happen, so who the heck knows what we are going to get.

....so basically 60% of the reg season schedule...that seems unreasonable??????...ummmmkay

w/o looking at it and the odd number on the end coupled with travel partners, I'm seeing one left out each year.....in other words x2 + 6 non div games

If you go to 18 conference games, you might as well just make it 19. Can you imagine 2 teams going 18-0 and being the 2 teams who randomly didn't play each other that season? It would be a disaster in my opinion.

But if we are going to stay at 16 games, I'm guessing we play:

Every team home and away rotating yearly(13 games) 3 divisions teams one year, the other 3 the next year

RE: Is anyone else NOT a fan of the new conference schedule setup in hoops?
Apologies for the prior Memphis interruption, sigh. I can understand not liking the new Thu/Sat setup, but it is wise economically when you look at it. UTEP can do the following:
* Fly to Norfolk on Wed evening and play the Monarchs on Thu night
* Bus to Greenville on Friday morning to play the Pirates on Saturday
Saves a lot of wear & tear on players and missed class time in addition to athletic budget. I don't know if that type of schedule would then bus back to Norfolk to fly back or just return directly from Greenville. "PGV" (Pitt-Greenville) does/did have quite a few daily directs to Charlotte, else RDU is only 80 miles or so away.

I suppose next season it would be ODU/Marshall, WKU/MTSU, FIU/FAU, Charlotte/UAB, USM/LA Tech, UNT/Rice, UTSA/UTEP. I can see a couple of annual at-large bids assuming that LA Tech, USM, MTSU continue the strong play from the last few years.

18 vs. 19 is just the economics of it

USM NEEDS more conference games....some yaz do not

I don't know about Charlotte/UAB and Marshall/ODU. I think Marshall/WKU, ODU/Charlotte, UAB/MTSU would make more sense as travel partners. The distances look like they could be fairly negligible, because a lot of these places aren't necessarily "close", but personally, I think this would make more sense.
