Everyone complains that Watson Brown let discipline problems stay on the team.
Now people are still complaining that McGee kicked a discipline problem off the team.

I guess we are like Bama fans. If the discipline problem is talented enough, everyone should look the other way if he wins. Oh wait, the discipline problem really never helped us win.

So what's the problem.

I always assumed we would have to win shootouts to win games this year. I didn't expect our defense to be that much improved. Scoring 23 against FAU and 27 against FIU (albeit in a win) is not good enough for this offense. We need to be scoring 30+ in conference games.

I agree. The defense is giving up almost 40 points per game. Duh!

If I was a preseason all-conference player and was told I'd be playing special teams and not even starting at wide receiver because some hot-shot transfer was coming in that wasn't even eligible yet, I'd be a discipline problem too.

Especially when you basically give the kid a starting job in fall camp and he hasn't even been cleared to play.

Unless an injury makes another choice necessary, I believe we will play out the season with the two that started it. If the RS QB was another "Johnny Football", we would know it by now.

i guess thats why he said "for next season"

So what's the problem.

I'm not questioning McGee's disciplinary policies, but the fact remains that we had two receivers coming back that caught a single ball last year, JJ Nelson and Kennard Backman.

With JJ hurt, we're down to one.

Not only that, but every other receiver but one (Smith) was playing high school ball this time last year.

That's a scenario that isn't conducive to any QB lighting it up.

We have not been playing against C-USA defenses. Judging by last night's game, that average should go up.

IMHO I don't think (from what I have witnessed) Brown is not as good as folks are making him out to be and Perry is near as bad as people are making him out to be. In reality they are not far apart at all. I don't think there is a dime's difference between them, it has to do more with situations. The difference I see is Brown struggles reading defenses and panics when his first option is not open but has the better arm as far as strength. Perry has the weaker arm but is able to avoid the rush better. Perry is not as polished a passer. Brown has been VERY fortunate this year as he has flirted with disaster with DBs dropping picks. Against FAU he fumbled 4 times and had two sure picks dropped but didn't lose one of them. It did kill drives though. Pick your poison.

I don't think either would be a long term solution. (Obviously Perry is a Senior) I think Brown will be pushed next season and won't be shocked if he is unseated.

I hope I am wrong but I think qb is the one position McGee has mishandled the most since he has been here which to me is ironic.

All that said I hope a light goes off and AB is all C-USA next season and all of this is a moot point.

It's easy to point fingers at the deafens and rightfully so. They deserve all the criticism they get but our problems are deeper than that. We need to find ways to get a yard on third and one or two without having to drop back and sling it down the field. Maybe we should put a fullback in the game and line up and run it? There is a thought.
[/quote

As far as the QB's I agree that A brown does have a problem scanning the field. He only sees one person whether he is open or not. I also agree that JP has a better ability to the the field and scramble. Personally I like the idea of playing two different QB's in different situations based on their strengths. A lot of teams do this, why can't we?

As far as the receivers, first of all we need to stop bringing defensive players over to offense when they are needed more on defensive side of the ball especially when we have receivers if we would just use them. I still can't believe that we will not use N Smith more than what we do, he is probably in the top there of our receivers, he may not be the fastest but he is fast and has the ability to get open and has great hands, probably the best in the team, why they use him for blocking is Beyond me.

The defense has got to step up and pressure the QB and we have got to learn to stop the pass.

Above all else, we have to quit having two good downs on defense, then giving up 12 on third and 8.

I'm still shocked McKee hasn't thrown a pass ,but its whatever. Whats the chance we lose Perry and Brown after this season.

Perry must have really pissed him off. He should have transferred so he could play. His last two years have been wasted here.

All XCNC guys should leave today even some of the 2012 kids. Things are trending to McGee guys taking over maybe with the same results. Let him live and learn with the guys in the back of the room who's house he went in to recruit.

I think we need more than 30 or so players to practice, much less play a game. Most of the 2012 recruits were already committed by the time McGee was hired and brought in his staff. All before that were signed by Callaway which is the reasoning behind giving a new staff several seasons before generating a "FIRE ______dot com" web site.

QB hasn't been the problem, the times the qb has been asked to throw the ball has been the problem. We shouldn't be throwing on 1st and 2nd down. And the running backs should be given the chance to carry us, and that has yet to happen.

Now McGee says JP gives us the best shot moving forward. I really think he has no idea from minute to minute what he's talking about. Things that he says and sees after it has only become painfully obvious really amaze me. He says he hasn't been playing JP because he "not a willing runner". Wtf?

WTF indeed. At least from watching the QBs play so far this year, it seems as though they'll get in trouble if they run. Perry had some good runs today. I say f it--let Perry play out his senior season with dignity and let's see what happens. If you run the ball like you're supposed to, we won't have to worry about throwing anyway.
