Its a different situation. Ruff is a an alum and a pirate letterwinner. He bleeds purple and gold and isnt looking to go anywhere else. Its up to us whether or not its his time to part ways. You need a coach who has a certain passion for USM and wont leave for greener pastures just for a bigger payday. Ruff isnt going anywhere, especially if he has the type of season we are on the brink of having. Good luck the rest of the season. Once you get the 0fer monkey off your back and get that first win then your guys will love that feeling and will never want to be back in that place.

Ruff is great guy and has done well finally bringing together a good staff and is good recruiter. As for being an X's and O's coach? That remains to be seen. ECU is likely his last HC job at a major college. That being said...I am pulling for him and I hope he has a long career at ECU.

A few things, one Fo Sizzile, X's and O's, you should talk to him some time. I've had the chance, he may not be the best, but he does know his X's and O's, especially on the defensive side. Look at what him and Rck Smith have done this year on that side of the ball.
Stink, Ruff is in his mid-50's, he is from NC, his family is here. He played here. He is man of his word. He will not leave, in his words, you'll have to drag me out of here, kicking and screaming. The man shed tears of joy when he got the job. He isn't going any where, they could offer him the Bama job and he wouldn't go.

unc could be looking for a coach soon. wouldn't that be a kick in the crotch?* lfed isn't exactly setting anyone's baby blue heart aflutter in crapple hill. yesterday, in true fedora-esque fashion, his offense had 500 yards, and he lost.
* yeah, I know. but this is the sort of bottomless pessimism that overtakes you when you're 0-for-the obama administration . . . or whatever we are.

RE: Dear USM
I truly and sincerely hope USM starts its march back to Top 25 greatness but only after this next Saturday!
CUSA needs a strong USM athletic program and will get it--soon enough.
Notice the colors of my toast, too.

Wow, y'all are really flying high up there. You've got your coach thumbing his nose at Bama, you're done playing Southern Miss forever, and, although you never did boot-lick your way to the center of the Big East, you did destroy the whole conference. You'll come back to Earth, though, and if Ruff in going to UNC is a part of that, I'll get a big laugh out of that. It would be a fitting comeuppance, and would no doubt leave your mouthbreathing fans even more slack-jawed than usual.

A. No power conference school would consider Ruff...Period. That idea is absurd on it's face and not even worth discussion.
B. The vast majority of ECU fans have zero problem playing USM again and have great respect for the program and its fans. I am Sorry you don't share that mutual respect.

I dunno. It's hard to compare right now. garrard was scary when we didn't suck. I remember a very good defense struggling to bring him down.
but, as I said, it's just so hard to use the product that we are putting in the field right now as a metric.

For a program like Southern Miss to be on the brink of back-to-back winless seasons could be disastrous for them long term, the "curse of the ellis" appears to still be upon them. I do not want to see that happen, but I definitely don't want them to "break the curse" at the expense of UAB.

That can be a very, very double-edged sword, my friend. Trust me from experience
Once you get the 0fer monkey off your back and get that first win then your guys will love that feeling and will never want to be back in that place.
certain passion????....omfg who teaches this logic?????
It's a job. You do the job or you find someone that can. Period.
I would lay 1:6 if Ruff was offered 2x salary.....bye-bye
Dude after he didnt get the Tech job he was headed to Cali to be the DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR OF THE SAN FRANCISCO 49ers on Jim Harbaugh's staff. Hes not going anywhere. He bleeds purple and gold.
