Historically speaking realignment goes like this.
Big Boys make moves.
Not so big boys react.
Things act settled down.
The not so big boys look around and don't like the moves they made in haste and the process resumes for another round.
I can see an example of where the Big Boys looked around the second time with the Airport 5 driven MWC formation and CUSA inviting TCU from the WAC. That move ultimately led to the demise of the Big West conference with Boise getting a seat at the WAC table.
If the MVC could add Ark State, Texas State, NIU, Ball St, WMU, CMU, Miami, Toledo and upgrade Indiana St, Illinois St, Northern Iowa and Missouri State like you are talking about it could be nice for the schools involved.
The remaining MAC schools (EMU, BG, KSU, Akron, Ohio, Buffalo, UMass) would only have to add 5 to get back to a championship game.....JMU, App State, G.S, Georgia State, South Alabama. Troy and ULM are screwed here and of course NMSU/Idaho. It would be more attractive than the current SBC setup for JMU that is for sure. I do think it makes a lot of sense for the SBC East and MAC East to align themselves together in a doomsday scenario.
Some good ideas and it it sounds like what the Big East did with starting a football conference back in the early 90's albeit on a smaller scale.
