I already posted this question on the other bowl thread, but did I miss something here....I thought that the MAC was holding back on committing to the Camellia Bowl. Is it a "dun deal" if certified by NCAA?

None of the new bowls actually get certified until spring but it sounds like they all meet the criteria and will get the official stamp then. Besides ESPN is backing all of these bowls so they are going to happen. They just need the official rubber stamp.

Is the "Bowl Game - TBA" actually the the LCPB that your commish and their backers are holding off on until the details are worked out in Detroit or elsewhere. It is a certified bowl for the MAC so I don't see the Conference letting this one get away. The MAC needs this bowl for their bowl eligible teams at the end of the year so no one has to sit home that is bowl eligible.

Note that there seems to be a limit in how many primary bowls a conference can have, based on its recent record in generating bowl eligible teams. If that is the case (I've been pointed to some media coverage of that, not to anything official), then whether the LCPB cetification is going to be moving to one of these bowls or is going to drop and be replaced is besides the point, since the MAC would be able to be the primary partner for five and past then it would be secondary agreements or hunting unfilled spots.

The MAC can certify 6 bowls using Temple's numbers over the past 4 years. Without Temple's numbers included then only 5 but with a couple of backup agreements allowed.

Five sounds like the right number because when you have 7 bowl eligible teams what you are going to be able to do is place your champ in a CFP bowl AND another deserving school in Detroit, Memphis ect. while still filling all of your bowl commitments.

An example using this year's competition.

1) Northern Illinois (Sugar vs. SEC)
2) Bowling Green (Detroit vs. ACC)
3) Ball State (Mobile vs. SBC)
4) Buffalo (Boise vs. MWC)
5) Toledo (Boca Raton vs. AAC)
6) Ohio (Bahamas vs. CUSA)
7) Central Michigan (Montgomery vs. SBC)

Its higher ground for the MAC to backup the B1G/ACC tilt than to have it be B1G #10 vs. MAC #2.....this way the likelihood of ending up a with a P5 opponent is much higher.

RE: Boca Bowl
With Mike Bath being named interim HC at Miami, in the local (Cincy, etc.) media it has brought some attention to the teams that Bath QB'd for Miami in the late 90's......he almost engineered a win at OSU (I was there) and then was knocked out of the game by a blantant "cheap shot" that B10 officials didn't even flag as I recall, and was 23-10 as a starter, including our 10-1 and "bowl-less" team of 1998. Now, essentially you go 7-5 and you're in, even from the MAC. What a change.....
