At #14, they misspelled "Western".

Kind of glad everyone is sleeping on Western this preseason....WKU is much better in the postseason rankings any way and really do not want to be included in a "mid major" poll, would rather be ranked in the real top 25......Preseason means nothing except to Georgia St. fan....

The rest of the SBC is going to have fun with GaSt. I'm putting the over/under on Panther road conference wins at 4. I know, I know, I'm being too generous, but they do have all this "Fighting Tony Mitchell's" hype going on.05-stirthepot

North Texas was a top 25 team last preseason by their fans, is GA St. fans ready to proclaim their team a "major" top 25 team? I am waiting.....

No hype from me. I'm just trying to get some more basketball talk going on this football dominated board. That this happens to be a promising year for Georgia State is coincidence. Like I've said before, us Georgia State guys came from a basketball dominated conference and the lack of message board basketball talk on this board is not something we are used to.

I'm hoping this team realizes that conference championships and NCAA tourneys are won on paper.

I just find it very amusing that fans of a team with a losing record last year in a not very good conference move over to another not very good conference and think that they will magically dominate it. I will tell you straight up that GaSt will not have the best backcourt in the Sun Belt; and maybe not the second best one either. Doesn't mean they won't win some games, just means that they won't dominate with guard play like they seem to think they will.

Could you give a little more detail on why you think this?

Is it because of atmosphere of Sun Belt arenas?

The geography of the conference?

The number of conference games in short time spans?

With regard to geography, I don't believe the Sun Belt could be any more "worse" than the CAA was to Georgia State. Our closing conference road game was 415 +/- miles away. Longest by over 1,100 (driven) miles.

Whereas in the Sun Belt the longest is 955 +/- and shortest is less than 200.

For a good discussion of what Georgia State went through in the CAA scheduling wise, see here: http://www.ajc.com/news/sports/college/c...le-/nQQtQ/

No Georgia State fan is saying we will dominate.

It is very hard to win on the road in any conference, however, the SBC is even more so. The echos of each footstep, of each bounce, and of each grunt from the players, reverberates off the empty chairbacks creating an atmosphere which is detrimental to normal basketball play. Empty basketball arenas is the SBC's secret weapon for basketball success. 05-stirthepot

RE: MBB: 2013-2014 Power Rankings
Not very many teams come off the Ark trip with a 2-0 record
Not many teams will win in Diddle
Not many teams will win in the Cajundome
Not many teams will win at USA

That's 5 places with good teams were most SBC schools will be the underdog going into that game.

On paper the SBC is about as strong this year as it's been in a long time. Now each of our schools need to take care of OOC to make it a conference that gets a good seed.

I've already seen one prediction... GST as a 16 seed

it wasn't even smack. it was just truth-telling.

you're lucky the f_u's and their teeny middle school gyms are gone.

you're lucky that troy has built a new arena that color coded their seating to hide the lack of fans. (they seriously said it was the reason that seats were different colors.....empty seat camoflage)

wait until your first trip into ulm where any announced attendance is inflated 9000%....i've honestly seen bigger crowds when i coached at the bowling green parks and rec.

asu used to have very good attendance then they got dick nutted. but they're still way more than the 300 gunz mentioned.

RE: MBB: 2013-2014 Power Rankings
yeah the FU's were bad and Troy (crybaby) freaking st can be and ULM is awful but for the most part at least 1500 to 2,000 will show up at the other SBC schools if they are losing and 1500 to 2000 more if they are winning

But still a 10,000 seat arena looks and sounds empty with 1500 fans in it.

We draw about 1500-2000 real butts in seats most games. The numbers in the box score are probably 2500 to 3000.

Ualr has some real talent but most have lost faith in steve to get it done.

We have 2 skilled bigs, a defensive stopper sf, and a good pg.

We should win some games in conference but the ooc schedule is a bunch of body bag games. We had the best ooc games a mid major could hope for for years but this year we look like a swac team scheduling ass whipping for dollars.

We have enough talent to win the league if the coaching is any good.
