The Curse of MAC Championship Winner
Noticed something interesting about the winners of the MAC Championship game since it's inception in 1997- after their MACC win many teams seem cursed with having multiple losing seasons in a row with several teams having yet to recover. NIU is the most recent winner and they are off to a strong start, will they be able to break the curse or does this mean they are destined for another championship?

You could probably chalk it up to the cyclical nature of the MAC and winning coaches moving on, etc. but calling it a curse sounds more spooky and fun with Halloween fast approaching. So here it is, the Curse of the MACC (woooooooOOOOoooooo)

Northern Illinois(12-2), 2012. Since then, 5-0.
Miami(10-4), 2010. Since then 4-8,4-8, 0-5.
Central Michigan(12-2), 2009. Since then 3-9, 3-9, 7-6, 2-4.
Buffalo(8-6), 2008. Since then 5-7, 2-10, 3-9, 4-8, 3-2.
Akron(7-6), 2005. Since then 5-7, 4-8, 5-7, 3-9, 1-11, 1-11, 1-11, 1-5.
Toledo(9-4), 2004. Since then 9-3, 5-7, 5-7, 3-9, 5-7, 8-5, 9-4, 9-4, 3-3.
Marshall(11-2), 2002. Since then 8-4, 6-6, 4-7, 5-7, 3-9, 4-8, 7-6, 5-7, 6-6, 5-7, 3-2.

And coaches leaving after a great run.

Anyway, Ohio shouldn't ever have to worry about that curse. You have to win it once first. Bobcats will be in the clear forever.

CMU and Marshall also had multiple wins, CMU won 3 in 4 years, Marshall won 5 in 6 years, the key is what happens after the streak ends, with NIU its too soon to tell.

You should reword your post then to say since LAST MACC win (but that eliminates your curse theory of winning a MACC since there have been multiple back to back winners since its inception)...but then that is kind of loaded since it is very difficult to sustain success in the MAC over long periods of time given the coaching turnover and of course graduation.

RE: The Curse of MAC Championship Winner
I'd be curious to know what the record of teams is after their senior QB graduates, vs. what it is when their coach leaves.

Right, QBs leave, Coaches leave, senior-laden teams in a league where teams aren't as deep across the board. Many reasons, all logical, none of them a curse.

that was my intent, I see that the word LAST was accidentally omitted. the point (and its a light hearted one, don't read too much into it) was that after a team wins a MACC (or several in a bunch) they tend to drop off severly in production for several years. We haven't really seen a team win a MACC(or several in near succession) and revert back to winning 8 or 9 games a season, the drop off tends to be much more dramatic. And for all of the reasons pointed out (QBs, coaches, etc).

RE: The Curse of MAC Championship Winner
We had a curse at Ford Field (see 2005 and 2010 MAC Championships) of losing at the end. But we won in 2011 and 2012, and now looking for the Bulls 3peat.

We return all of our offense next year minus Lynch and one OL. So whatever QB steps in will have a veteran offense to play behind.

not only did our qb graduate, but so did our playtmakers, oh yeah and the new coach implemented his balanced offensive system from MSU while having an icompetent D coordinator, in this case the only curse is from Gary Denardo, the guy our AD hired as a consultant to find coach Enos. 03-banghead Enos seems like a good guy, have nothing against him except the fact CMU has struggled since he came to mount p
