NIU Athletics Hall of Fame induction October 11
Mike Korcek has a nice article on this. I'm going, tickets are free, but you need to call to get the tickets. Alum Rick Cerrone had a big part in putting this together.
http://www.huskiewire.com/articles/2013/.../index.xml
"In addition to the introduction of past inductees and the latest ones, the 2013 NIU Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony features an anniversary tribute video of the 1963, 1983, and 2003 football teams narrated by Emmy award-winning NBC sportscaster Bob Costas (yes, that Bob Costas), a special “halftime”, and a few more surprises in an ESPYs-type format. Members of all three football teams will be in attendance and also honored at halftime of Saturday’s (Oct. 12) Northern Illinois-Akron game.
The Hall of Fame reception with a cash bar (5:30 to 6:45 p.m. in the Capitol Room) and induction ceremony (7 to 9 p.m.) is open to the public. You can reserve complimentary tickets (yes, they’re free of charge) by calling Amy Schmidt in NIU Athletics Development at (815) 753-1923. All guests must have tickets."

RE: NIU Athletics Hall of Fame induction October 11
This should be a great event. In addition to the inductees, the list of attendees reads like a who's who of NIU athletics.
Quote:The 2013 NIU Hall of Fame inductee roll call: Mick Coyne (men’s swimming, 1998-2001), Ryan Diem (football, 1997-2000), Denise Dove (women’s basketball, 1987-91), Sue Henrichsen (women’s swimming, 1979-83), Dan Jaques (men’s track and field, 1969-73), Joe Novak (football coach, 1980-83, 1996-2007), Walt Owens (baseball, basketball coach, mentor, 1973-2007), and the 1991 women’s gymnastics team.
Do you think Bill Baker, Tom Beck, Mary Bell, Bork, Rodney Davis, Roger Dutton, Lisa Foss, Cary Groth, Heimerdinger, Tammy Hinchee, Jerry Ippoliti, Mark Kellar, Al Kranz, Bill Mallory, Dave Petzke, Vince Scott, Jim Smith, and Tim Tyrrell provide enough collective Northern Illinois endorphin memory rushes?

Never been to an event like this, but actually debating since I will be in Dekalb already on the 11th. Is it a suit and tie type occasion?

I would love to go to the event. However, my Friday schedule and the fact that I need to pick up friends for the Saturday game preclude this. Guess I'll just have to see it on Huskie All-Access.
I totally understand this being on a Friday before Homeconing. However, I wish other Athletics events were held on a weekend rather than weeknight to make it easier for us out-of-town donors to attend. Not everyone lives in DeKalb-Sycamore.

Not every out-of-town donor donates in Grotto gift cards either.

Not a suit and tie deal unless you want to or if you are in the Hall of Fame. I've been told it's "upscale casual." Skip the jeans and sandals and throw on some khakis and I'm sure you'll be fine.
I'm really looking forward to this.

Hey, who you crappin', Who You Crappin'? Athletics LOVES my Grotto gift card donations!! The guys and gals there told me it puts a smile on their faces and provides a great stress relief that they need from fans on this board driving them nuts. They said that my gift keeps on giving - sometimes until it hurts.
P.S. By the way, we may soon be offering a sale on our circumcision services at the Grotto. A cut-rate discount of 10% off, and tips are graciously accepted. Customers may use rear entrance to ensure privacy. In case you're leery, I'm not trying to pull anything because it's no skin off of my back.

Ya just don't see leaving the kids alone with the wife for an additional 3.5 hr the day before she is going to wrangle them for 8 hours the next day with tailgating and the game itself.
If its on NIUTube that may be enough of a reason for me to get it this month.

For those not able to make the Friday night induction, there is this on Saturday before the homecoming game:
Saturday, October 12
11 am to 12 pm: Dedication of 1963 College Division National Championship plaque, southwest plaza, Huskie Stadium
No ticket or RSVP required. Sponsored by the NIU Alumni Association

What do think about that NI logo?

Bump - as a reminder.
Coach Novak is among the inductees this Friday evening.

The way the Falcons running backs are stinking up the joint they should sign him back immediately. They are missing him big time as they can't run up the middle at all.

I wonder if there will be an opportunity to get Novak or others to sign my NIU book at that event, maybe afterwards? I don't want to be tacky or bug anybody on their big day but it would be perfect to have Novak's signature in a book about NIU football history.
