Actually, our defense has been getting too much blame due to struggles on offense and the occasional special teams glitch. We were competitive against Toledo but turned the ball over four times, for example. Against UNLV, the defense was playing very well, until our offense started stalling out. And today, all 9 of Miami's points came after CMU turnovers. One on a punt return fumble by our best -- and normally sure-handed -- receiver. Bottom-line it, we have a R-Freshman at QB due to injury and lost all-MAC players at RB and LT early in the season. Makes for an adventure every time we get the ball.
This.
Our defense isn't that bad. There have been pick 6's, fumble returns, blocked punts, etc. Yes every team may have those, but we have a freshman QB who has thrown 8 INT's and put our defense in bad positions. He's also fumbled the ball 4+ times.

Nick misses one game due to an unlucky coin flip.

There are injuries to the Ohio OL but at the mid point of the season the replacements have some experience.
Good call on 40 points......to win by 40 made it even more special.

RE: Nick's Picks for Week #6
Nick’s Picks went 6-1 over the weekend only losing “the coin flip” game of Miami/Central; Nick’s Picks now stand at 48-12 year-to-date. As I’ve done many times this year (and through the years) many of the scores were spot-on. Great job Ball State for getting a quality win at an ACC school. Hope BG can win at Mississippi State this weekend but don’t see it.
Week 6 Review
Nick’s Pick: Ball St 31 – Virginia 27
Actual Score: Ball St 48 – Virginia 27
Nice to see a quality MAC team play like the better team as they were in this contest; too often through my 35-plus years of following MAC football has a solid MAC team fell flat against a BCS-type of team that should beat…kudos to the Cardinals for getting it done
Nick’s Pick: Buffalo 27 – Eastern 16
Actual Score: Buffalo 42 – Eastern 14
I thought EMU would be a little more competitive here; UB now has a good shot to run off a few victories and could end the season 6-6 or 7-5
Nick’s Pick: Miami 17 – Central 16
Actual Score: Central 21 – Miami 9
Miami loses at home and then fires their coach; kudos to Central for being better than I thought
Nick’s Pick: Ohio 34 – Akron 28
Actual Score: Ohio 43 – Akron 3
Not surprised that Ohio won by more than I had predicted but I am surprised that Akron lost by 40…my early MAC East prediction stays the same; Ohio will beat BG and win the east
Nick’s Pick: Toledo 48 – Western 20
Actual Score: Toledo 47 – Western 20
Nailed this one…Western was down 47-7 and UT could have won this by 50 points; Western is totally inept right now and I can’t understand it as Bill Cubit did not leave a bare cupboard
Nick’s Pick: BGSU 26 – UMass 3
Actual Score: BGSU 28 – UMass 7
Nailed it…
Nick’s Pick: NIU 38 – Kent St 27
Actual Score: NIU 38 – Kent St 24
Nailed it…

We lost 5 of our last 6 games last season, the final one being being a home loss to 1-10 EMU. Not sure what kind of cupboard that is. Strange to think we've only won once in our past 12 games.
Indeed, no one thought we'd be this awful, and the frustrations with Fleck are valid and well known. But remember we were picked 5th out of 6 MAC West teams on MAC Media Day, and this was before our FOTY wide receiver got injured.

I thought it was crazy that you guys were picked so far down the list of MAC West teams and I thought that Fleck was going to come in with both guns blazing the way he did with recruiting. I am really surprised I was so wrong. At the same time, I couldn't understand why everyone was picking BG to be so good this year but again, I was wrong.
