Question about basketball/baseball scheduling next year.
Obviously next year we will have 11 teams for basketball and baseball. I don't know if scheduling has been discussed yet by the conference but does it seem likely that we will play a double round robin totally in basketball (20 games) and a round robin in baseball (30 games).

Or will the schedule be something less than that?

Double round robin for basketball is confirmed. Baseball should be a single round robin with one team having a "bye" each weekend.

RE: Question about basketball/baseball scheduling next year.
I like it. That guarantees 10 HOME conference games in basketball and 5 HOME series in baseball. By the way I just listened to an interview with our new basketball coach and he talked about what a step up the SunBelt is from the SoCon in basketball. He said the SoCon was #27 in RPI last year (very low) and the SunBelt was #15, so that is quite a jump.

I am a big baseball fan and moving to the SunBelt along with the other new teams will make the SunBelt a very strong baseball conference-- in fact it already is. I have no doubt the SBC will at a minimum be a 3 bid league every year and some years 4-5. I see the SBC being a top 6-7 baseball conference at worst and possibly a top 4-5.

Looking forward to next year.

Judging by our nonconference schedules this year, we need as many conference games as possible.

There are several of us that are huge baseball fans on here. Baseball season in 2014 and then 2015 will be a lot of fun. It'll be nice to have teams that really care about their baseball programs, so we're not just talking to ourselves.

The basketball scheduling derived from MTSU's and FAU's late departures from the SBC, which came quite a bit after FIU and UNT. Filling two to four games on such a short notice was challenging. My hope is that we won't see much of that in the future.

Not me. I'm all for full round robins. None of this questioning the standings because of who didn't play who.

I am referencing the multiple non-DI games each team had to schedule.

Besides, over ten teams in a conference and a full round robin becomes difficult.

Since our OOC schedule is a disgrace, I can't disagree with that statement, but I still like everyone playing each other.

If I am not mistaken, isn't your arena lacking? If so, an investment in renovation or new building would help.

Despite the hits the Sun Belt has taken, the OOC scheduling is still 100x better than the SoCon. We're a big offender and hopefully the move will ramp up our scheduling.

Straight up, you bring back football we'll get a new BB arena.

(they are working on upgrade plans as we type)

Yeah, for App and Ga Southern this is a huge deal. You could throw in an OOC home and home with a couple Southern Conference schools in with a full SBC home slate, and you already have fan interest.

The problem is that our fans wouldn't see Southern Conference schools as being a quality opponent to bring in (No offense)

For some reason, I thought MBA2000 was a Georgia Southern guy. In that case, I know Strahan is lacking.

yes- I dont see but a cpl. of games on our home schedule this year that will draw any interest. fans here in the metro area would come out if we had somebody like smu or tcu or tech or baylor or untexas coming in. dont think smu will ever come to our place but the others might. we never had a facility worthy enough till now. oklahoma came to our place last year and it was a big crowd and great game. also we had utah state and nmsu in.

I am assuming here that next year's basketball tourney will include 8 of the 11 schools and maybe the same for baseball. If that is true the fairest way to determine the top 8 is to play a double round robin in basketball and play a complete round robin in baseball.

Basketball tourney for Men's will be top 8 with the top 2 seeds getting a double bye to the semifinals. Women's tourney will be traditional 8 team format.

Baseball tourney will be 8 team double elimination. We had pool play, but it was voted out a year ago. Its possible it could be voted back in, depends on what the new teams in the league think.

It is just a guess, but I don't think UTA is high on pool play. We usually do well in the DE tourney, but the WAC had pool last year and we didn't. Haven't asked the coach or AD personally, so take it for what it is worth.
