Happier things... PG's let's look at ours
So, now let’s move to the kids and why we will win this year.

PG’s
Devonte Smith

On paper the kid is small but man has he been a winner. He produced 5.6 assists a game last year. That is a lot. On the Canada trip he hit some threes but did not take a lot.
That makes me think the kid has to be a good pg.

J.T. Thomas

PG? Well I am taking it that he is. Freshman numbers from Toledo say nothing. No real way to read it. The plus/minus on the Canada trip show him as the best player.

The Canada trip he played a lot. Honestly, It looks like Haggins and him may be used as combo guards

Go back to the Graber years with Harding and Co Willis, were probably the smartest bunch of kids we have had and I don’t remember them running anything that gave me faith we could produce a good look. Now, Freeman was reported to not know the plays, which plays hell on the other four guys trying to get them open.

But at pg we look to be the strongest we have ever been and I have some hope that we will be able to run something that will produce open looks.

Now, if Steve runs his high low post game as a primary option on offense we will produce more turnovers than shots, please go back to the JJ years in your mind of how that looked.
Can the kids run Steve’s over complicated offense?

Let’s hope. He has to get some help in running it from the other 4 players on the court. Steve will hopefully not run the pound it inside game due to the lack of a post score.

Due to the lack of an inside scorer and the fact we DO have a lot of depth you would think we 3 pg’s that can play we would run the ball and press some this year in an attempt to make the other teams bigs run. If we don’t run and we play grinder ball with this thin team do we play some kind of zone? Steve has never played much zone. This will be interesting.

I do feel good about the pg’s this year makes me feel good about the year. I think Steve has only had 2 good pg’s in 10 years: Graber and D andre. I think we have 3 this year that we can find 1.5 pg’s out of the 3.

The secret here is we have to run and play some up-tempo or the lack of inside size and depth are going to be exposed.

And don't forget that Osse can also play the point in a pinch. The point and two guard spot will be well stocked this year. Probably better than any season since Steve became the coach. But the secret is designing your offense to fit your personnel. If he continues to try and play the throw it inside first game, it will be a disaster. We don't have the depth inside now to play that sort of game, unless the Hill kid develops enough to play that part, and he's just 6'5", but maybe he can do it. Will might not be strong enough to play a lot inside and Gus hasn't shown the ability to stay healthy or stay in game shape to play a lot of minutes. But this is a new year, and maybe they're all healthy and will be able to implement Steve's game plan, or at least make it somewhat workable.

Perimeter is in place. Steve just has to give them some rein to play.

You would assume so.
