I thought they only did this in peewee league
Earlier Saturday, Louisville and Florida International agreed to a running clock over their game's final minutes. Then Miami and Savannah State went out and one-upped them.

Officials announce that both coaches have agreed to a 12 minute fourth quarter.

Yes, that's correct. The teams chopped three minutes off the final quarter. With three minutes to go in the third quarter of Louisville's 72-0 win over FIU, the teams agreed to let the clock run on normal stoppages in play for the final 18 minutes.

Entering the fourth, the score was 77-7 in favor of Miami. The betting line before the game had Miami favored by 60 points, the third time Savannah State has been a 60 point or larger underdog since 2012.

These mis-matches are clearly dangerous for the lower level teams. Somebody is going to really get hurt. Unfortunately, the NCAA only cars bout money. Letting wins against FCS teams, count for bowls, is big a, but unnecessary, motivation for FBS teams to schedule those games which save them a lot of money.

High Schools have been doing that for years. It's called the Mercy Rule, and once a team gets a 35 point lead anytime in the second half, the clock rules, stopping only on timeouts and injuries. If a team has a 35 point lead at halftime, then the clock runs the entire second half.

While I agree that these bought mis-matches are absurd and certainly do nothing for the game of college football or the fans, do you have any empirical evidence that more injuries are incurred by the lower level teams? I've never heard anyone say that before. I don't think the players from the lower level teams are necessarily at greater risk, they are just not as good at the game as the other guys. It's not like putting little kids out there against college students. Both sides are well conditioned, etc., just one side has a whole lot better skill level.

They are probably not as fast, therefore "they might have an advantage in staying out of harms way because they can't get there". That's a good quote for you Scotto!

I've never heard or seen any stats on injuries occurred by the roody-poo's in games with the big boys, but the only thing that I can think of that might be of significance in any findings, is that the players on the big boy's, while not boys against men, are usually bigger, probably stronger in a lot of cases, and faster.

But that would hold true in a lot of high major games too, especially when teams play Alabama!

I'm not sure all the players are stronger. But most are definitely quicker and faster. Most Sun Belt teams have a lot of very large players, but as someone has said, most are not as skilled as the players from the larger conferences.
