Louisville 72 FIU 0 (no longer a Belt team, but you get the point)
Baylor 70 ULM 7
Miss State 52 Troy 7

Doesn't sound real fun to me. Even ASU, lost to a terrible Memphis team 31-7.

It's not fun being the dummy unless you're the dummy for a ventriloquist. Yes, I was surprised that ASU lost to Memphis. I think they've had Memphis number for several years. I don't like body bag games, and I never will. Some have called these schools prostitutes, and that 's about what they are.

Good point. Fear of losing. With that logic lets just drop basketball to DIII so we don't have to worry about losing there either?!? (Theoretically; Steve is our coach after all)

I don't think we're all against football because of fear of losing. I think the real fear should be that it would cost more than the program could afford. At least that would be my concern. If I thought for a moment we could come up with the money to finance and comfortably sustain a football program without harming the basketball program I would be for it 100%.

I am with outside. I just dont think we have the money.

The most poor boy way i see of playing it would be to go to d2 in football and play the arkansas schools (whatever the gulf south is now called),

The bad thing about that is it makes it easier to move all sports to d2 at some point.

I didn't realize this until I saw this posted on the Sun Belt board- WKU went through an 0-26 stretch after moving to DI. They already had football. How many folks would we have at War Memorial to open the season, after two 0-12 seasons?

Fear mongering doesn't change my opinion. After that slow start wku ayes in a bowl last year. It's a process. Of course we'd suck at first. That shouldn't prevent us from trying, be it football or riding a bike.

We did go winless one season and that season was bookended by two 2-10 seasons.

As somebody who personally attended every single one of those home losses I can say with some authority that it was totally worth it.

We are hampered by not having great endowment funds like some universities. And since probably most of our operating funds come from student activities fees, our enrollment is much smaller than some of the other conference schools. I think we do a heck of a job for the funds available to operate the program.

We get less money from State or student fees than any team in the conference. Other than ASU, it's not even close. ASU lives under the same restrictions that we do with regard to State funding of athletics. Like you said we do more with less. But, I really don't disagree with the concept that athletics should raise a large chunk of the money they use on their own.
