AD search coming down the home stretch

I think they had a better candidate pool last time they had to fill the slot. Perhaps the best options would have been the guys who didn't apply - locals Stallworth and Logan. Bad timing for them, according to what I read the other day. Would be jumping from the spa into the toilet from what I read between the lines the other day.

Spetman - Has been good at getting canned the last few years. So he has MW experience, big deal. If he were a coaching candidate that might mean a little more. Appears to be the front runner, but he's last on my list.

Johnson - Seems to really want to get out of Wazzu. Getting to where he's showing up too much as an also-ran in AD searches. Gotta be a reason for that. Seems like his philosophy melds well with Smatresk's, and his nose looks like a perfect fit for Neal's butt. Say hello to our next AD.

Peterson - This guy really intrigues me. Sure, UALR is small and has no football program, but this guy played and coached college football. I get the feeling he misses it a lot and would love the challenge of (re)building a program. Has a track record of fundraising and building, he's accessible, the fans love him, and he's already turned down other schools who've tried to lure him away. Seems like the perfect match for the job. No chance he gets hired (but I hope I'm wrong).

Don't know how this guy knows more than us, but he suggests Chris has turned down jobs before.

he probably has some friends on the inside of the program.

Here is to Chris getting that job. I think it is the perfect fit for him and no one is mad when people move up and on to do better. UNLV is better than UALR, so good luck.

The pieces of absolute fiction that are highlighted in your post are direct quotes from a Las Vegas newspaper article that got those "facts" from that reliable reporter of the truth- Wally Hall!

RE: View from a Rebel fan
I can't say about turning down other jobs, because I don't know, but the other parts are pretty accurate. He is accessible. He circulates throughout the crowd at the games and visits with fans. You can talk to him. He might not take your suggestions, but he'll listen. And I would venture to say that most of the fans do like him. Nobody can please everyone. And how many of us old timers would have ever thought twenty years ago that we'd have a facility like the Jack Stephens Center, which like it or not, we wouldn't have had without Chris's friendship with the Stephens family. So all in all, at least from Wally's perspective, the quotes are accurate. And you guys will love this. I enter the building from the lower floor on the East Side on occasion so I don't have to walk up the steps, and one night we came in and Chris was vacuuming the floor in the little area by the elevators. That really amused me. He probably didn't have to do that himself, but he obviously chose to. I doubt you would ever see Jeff Long doing something like that.
Is he perfect? No. But his positive accomplishments have far outweighed any negatives he might have. UNLV could do a lot worse than hiring Chris. I hope they're smart enough to make that choice. He deserves a chance to run a full athletic program. Being an old football player and coach, you know he wants the chance to run a football program. If he moves on, I will be rooting for him to succeed and thank him for his many contributions to our program.

Interesting. Wally is certainly the guy I would go to since he always tells it "Like it is".

I think like all of us, Wally sees things from his perspective. I'm certain that what he says is true from his perspective. And that's all any of us can do.

I'm sure Wally small doesn't know anymore about the UALR program than any of us, and probably not nearly as much. I doubt that he comes to a game more than a couple of times a year. He's got his nose stuck up the asses at Arkansas so much that he doesn't have time to know much about our program. He could do a lot for our program if he chose to, but he doesn't. I don't blame him because he gives the hogs much more and better coverage than we get. I know that's where the big majority of their readers are, but he should be doing a much better job of promoting the local program here, and in the central Arkansas high schools. Even the northwest Arkansas high schools get better coverage than the local high schools. Therefore I can't stand the little twirp.
