Talequah, Oklahoma Newspaper: Sports Illustrated Report is Bogus
The OSU Sports Illustrated story was really written by Thayer Evans, a University of Oklahoma graduate and acknowledged OSU hater. Evans' poor reputation caused SI not to put his name on the stories.
The investigation "method" of Evans is coming out and several inconsistencies and retractions by quoted players are coming out.
SI used Thayer Evans to boost magazine sales. What has happened to OSU....could have happened to your school. This is an issue that effects every fan of every school if SI gets away with this story. OSU's fight is everyone's fight.

Will be interesting to see how this all unfolds. It sure smells of a reporter with a suspicious reputation, trying to get rich off the woes of ex-OSU football players. Need more evidence before we can say this story is real or not.

As someone whose school was targeted by a "journalist" with an agenda, I hope Okie State is fully exonerated.

RE: Talequah, Oklahoma Newspaper: Sports Illustrated Report is Bogus
I saw the difference between the Yahoo and SI reports, and there was no comparison. The quality of reporting in the SI report was so bad that I couldn't believe what was written. I was the assistant editor of my college newspaper as a freshman, and was named editor my sophomore year. My father was a nationally respected journalist from the old school too (1977 Sports Writer of the Year). I have a bit of experience in this area, which made me doubt SI's report right off the bat, no matter who wrote it...

I'm on the Defensive? I wouldn't say so. I'm merely commenting on the poor reporting by SI.com. They have no proof worth all that print, other than the word of a bunch of disgruntled players who weren't good enough to get onto the field for OSU, or were dismissed by the team. Yahoo's SEC report is how you do such things. They had documented proof on everything, and named all names involved in the controversy, including the reporter who wrote it. SI has none of that...
If DeForest is guilty of any violations at OSU, WVU will let him go immediately, which will please damn near everyone in Morgantown. DeForest was responsible for WVU's lousy defense last year, and his special teams was responsible for the Oklahoma loss last weekend. If he is guilty, DeForest will also most likely be hit with a show cause by the NCAA, which will render him pretty much unemployable. Why would I defend him?
But as the son of an award winning journalist, I hate to see poor reporting, and that's what SI.com represents these days. The best reporters today work for Yahoo, not SI...

Your post contains two errors. The more serious error is "who he truly cheers for" and is the reason I have chosen not to post as much on this board. Your statement assumes that this is an AAC board, and any post not praising AAC and/or defending BCS school or conference, is a flame of AAC. This is the basic problem with this board.
This is supposed to be an open board discussing the structure of college athletics. But it isn't. Rather, it has been taken over by AAC fans who, consumed by their own futility, use it to bash other conferences, primarily B12 and the Texas BCS schools.

I think that is the problem with most of these reports. They are written by organizations that specialize in entertainment. There goal is not to find the truth but to find a sensational story that will draw viewers/hits/subscribers and therefore ad revenue.

Oklahoma State and its coaches - specifically Joe DeForest - should sue the pants off SI. If all of those parties choose not to sue SI, I am going to go ahead and presume that SI is telling the truth.

Sue SI.com for what? Bad reporting isn't a crime, even though it should be IMO...
To prove slander, you first have to prove malice a fore thought. SI was merely stupid for printing a report without any real proof, other than the words of disgruntled players who weren't good enough to play at OSU, much of which has since been called into question by documentation...
SI was just stupid, and unfortunately fundamental stupidity isn't a punishable offense, even though it should be...

Well, if you want to explore every possibility, there's probably something you could sue them for. But proving it was done on purpose, instead of through simple stupidity, is going to be difficult...

...this from the guy that spent years intentionally trying to degrade and bash the Big East (now AAC) every chance he could get. That's not an opinion, it's categorically proven through a long, extensive history of your posts. But the irony is that those intensely biased posts were largely responsible for fueling the AAC backlash/participation on the board, and as thus, pretty darn hilarious that you believe they are the 'problem' of this board. You can't fuel a wildfire, and then blame it on the firemen rushing to put it out. As you'll notice now after your extended absence, there really isn't any kind of specific bias on this board, and certainly not AAC. The majority of posts come from p5 team fans, and if anything, there may be a higher ACC concentration. It is what it is. Conference interest goes in cycles depending on the rumors.

Regarding the first statement, all my posts were correct so it is hard to label them as bashing.
Regarding the second statement, AAC fans calmed down, not because I decided to quit posting, but because all the boasts made by Commish Aresco, AAC Prezs and ADs, and AAC were now falling apart including a TV contract far, far short of the boasted $15/$18M, the withdrawl of the Catholic basketball schools, and the loss of Rutgers and Louisville. That was followed by the loss of Pinstripe, Charlotte, and Champs Bowls. And that has now been followed by a dismal opening of the football season. This is why AAC fans have "calmed down" on this board; not because I decided not to post so much anymore. But simply because AAC's chickens came home to roost.
All the posts were 100% accurate, not because I am some kind of smart guy. But, rather, I have seen this all before at the Denver Airport with the self proclaimed "Elite" MWC led by the Colorado State Prez. Colorado State? Oh, yes, that is the team Tulsa beat weekend before last.
