From our not so distant history...
Via wikipedia...
Quote:The 1993 season started off with a humiliating home loss to I-AA Youngstown State University. It was followed by a tough road loss to Purdue University, which left WMU at 0–2 and facing the prospect of a long season. However, the Broncos righted the ship and reeled off wins in seven in their last nine games (with one tie) to finish the year at 7–3–1 (6–1–1 in the MAC). Following the 1993 loss to Purdue, WMU embarked on its most successful run during the Molde era. In its next 14 games, a stretch that covered the remainder of the 1993 season and the first half of 1994, WMU posted a 12–1–1 mark and firmly established itself as one of the MAC's best programs. Due to a quirk in the MAC schedule, WMU and Ball State did not play head-to-head in 1993, which denied Molde's Broncos the chance to earn a second outright MAC title. Instead, Ball State finished 7–0–1 in the conference, won the title, and received the subsequent automatic berth in the Las Vegas Bowl. Following his team's 14–14 tie with WMU, then-Bowling Green head coach Gary Blackney (whose team had played both WMU and Ball State during the season), remarked, "Western Michigan is by far the best team we've played in the conference."
Hmmm...

Yeah, that's been discussed. Youngstown was the 1AA champ that year, Tressell was their coach.

Yup. Big difference between 1993 Youngstown and 2013 Nicholls.

Maybe. Looked like a team that's about to go on a run.

And we thought our D was really good after MSU. Now we are wondering if it was our D, or MSU's poor O that made the D look good.
So I ask, was Nicholls that good, or was it that we were that bad?

It was a combination. I'll give Nicholls credit. After taking a whipping from the Ducks, they came in and let it all hang out. They played hard.
The simple truth is that they should have been overmatched. That is not what it looked like to me.
But it has become apparent that MSU is not good at all.

Hmmm...
I played on those teams I was a sophomore and junior started several and played every quarter. It sucked but they were not to be talked about in the same breath as Nicholls and I think they would agree.

I don't need to watch, I was there and saw it first hand. My question was rhetorical.
I know we were not a good team out there, and that Nicholls had strenghts we were not prepared to deal with.

Nichols strengths were that they were there to play. We had physical advantages at each spot and their 3rd string qb came in and was afraid to throw the ball.
Yet we were still outcoached!!

And that is the main reason we were not a good team!

Novak was in the game 20 years when he came in. Little different. Did joe tell the whole university needed to follow his lead? Damn it. I am sticking to Saturday performance.

Why'd it take him so long to get a HC job?

Don't know but he did stay with a friend in Mallory for a long time. Coaching is a scary job and something can be said for a steady paycheck. My guess would be that he wanted to be prepared when he got one?

Good give and take. You're fun to read that's for sure.
