TVT
Well we've talked enough about Coach Fleck, now we've got to face the facts about TVT.
47.6% completion
0 TDs
4 INTs
Noodle-arm
Tunnel vision
Telegraphs every throw
Either can't or won't throw to anyone but Corey Davis
Whereas, redshirt freshman Zach Terrell came in and threw 2 TDs at MSU.
So...is it time for the next man up? TVT couldn't get it done at home against a bad FCS squad. What's he going to do in Evanston, Iowa City, Toledo, DeKalb?
We've hit rock bottom. It can't get any worse. So I think we might as well put a younger guy in and build a team for next year.
What do you guys think?

RE: TVT
He was pretty good last year, I remember this board not wanting AC to play because TVT was playing so well. Right?

RE: TVT
True. He looked decent last year.
But that was with an established coaching staff and playbook.

IIRC, he improved as the season wore on and seemed like he found his groove by CMU. We then needed to only beat lowly Buffalo and EMU to get bowl eligible, and some felt that we should stick with TVT's hot hand than risk putting a cold, rusty Carder back in. Hindsight is 20/20, though.

RE: TVT
I suppose it's also worth mentioning that the O-line couldn't pass-protect to save their lives.

RE: TVT
I will say this regarding TVT under Cubit's offense and apparently unde this new Offense...
My theory is that under Cubit's "system" it was a check at the line and all based on timed routes. He had worked 3 years understanding the nuances that created seams in Cubit's offense, and the defensive keys to those line calls.. ALSO we had a better O-Line last year that had worked in that system the entire WMU career.
Under the new system I think Fleck is asking TVT to be more of a creative on the fly QB and TVT is not a natrual QB, he's a smart athlete with a skill set that allows him to make throws when confident. Saturday it looked like TVT wasn't confident in either his own check downs and his ability to throw a WR open... he eyed his WR's in HOPES they would come open and the defense just sat on his routes...
Someone also mentioned that Tyler looked a little apprehensive, maybe due to the hit he took in E.Lansing... I am not sure he ever pulled it down and ran... but I think we need a QB right now that can do that. Someone that can keep a defense off balance by constantly having that ability to pull it down and run. I know Carder did that quite well here... sure it cost him some time as he got injured... but Carder never took the sideline when he had the ability to go at a LB or DB...

This, and I think I can count on one hand the number of times he's "checked down". Telegraphing almost every throw.

RE: TVT
I was amazed he was still in there by the 2nd half - and it's not like he magically got all that much better.
Every point mentioned in the OP is spot-on. Given what Terrell did last week, I really thought we might at least give him a series or two, just to see what would happen.

Very good point... Last year TVT had more time to check down and throw the ball. Check the CMU game. The combination of a new offense and a small O-line both QB's will struggle when pressured.
TVT has a rifle for an arm. I would like to see us run plays where TVT and roll out and hit some targets 5- 10 yds down the field and then go over top when the D starting cheating up. We also need to get more WR's involved (Schaffer, Keith, & Roberts).

RE: TVT
I think honestly, we need to get our WRs and TVT to mesh better so he isn't looking at just one target.
And we need his confidence to get there. He needs some hypnosis... something to snap him into confident reality, otherwise he'll sink. He's got talent -- as he showed last year, he is Very Capable of not executing it due the mental game.
But that's where coaches have to step in. To make the Most out of the players. TVT's had time. He needs to step. It. Up. And the WRs need to flow with him in practice.
But even at the same time -- to give up 450+ yards to an Ugly D1AA team? Our D has a lot of splaining to do.
If we quickly turn this boat around and start playing more to how we should play and make tackles and few miscues against NW, while TVT plays how he should:
NW: 42
WMU: 24
What I think will probably happen? We'll be better and more suited for the game, but the D1AA loss will make it a slow turn:
NW: 48
WMU: 17

THIS. With their 3rd string QB who was afraid to throw for a good deal of the game.

To repeat what others have already asked...
How truly bad is MSU's offense?

They couldn't score four times in a scrimmage.
