On a side note, UTSA won the CUSA tourney.

Do we think both of us get sent to Austin or is that just too many TX teams for 1 regional?

yes. ut-austin will be lobbying the selection committee for a cpl. pushovers to play..sort of like getting a bye in the first round. that way they have a tune-up game and one tougher but easily winable game before advancing.

RE: Volleyball Scores
It will all depend on the seeding. UT-Austin won't get to play a 15, 14 and 12 at once. They will likely get a SWAC-caliber team the first round.

I am curious to see if Sun Belt teams get better seeding the SLC teams. Obviously WKU would have been seeded high had they won.

RE: Volleyball Scores
Central Arkansas has had some decent seeding of late, low teens, rather than mid, but they have had rankings similar to WKU. The rest of the SLC rarely got better than 14 after UTA's heyday ended.

Texas St loses 3-0.

Got spanked in first set. Second set down 13-2, rallied and lost 26-24. Lead for a while in the third set then Texas killed it off 25-16.

Georgia Southern lost 3-0 as well. Each set was 25-20 and we had a healthy lead in the second set at one point

Apparently, though, we had a good crowd and rattled their supporters, team & coach a few times. From Tyler Mayforth:

AUSTIN — Some strange things happened halfway through the second set of an eventual three-set loss by Texas State to Texas in the first round of the NCAA Division I Volleyball Tournament.

Gregory Gym, the usual raucous home of the Longhorns, fell silent.

If the home crowd tried to start a “Texas-Fight” chant, the second part of it was quickly replaced by “State” by a strong Bobcat contingent.

Above all, Texas head coach Jerritt Elliott had to make a ‘T’ with his hands and call his defending national champions back to the huddle: twice. Elliott did so again in the third set when Karen Chisum’s team still wouldn’t back down.

“I want to make it known that Jerritt had to call four timeouts,” said Chisum, who coached with a heavy heart with her mother in the hospital from a heart attack earlier in the week. “They got a little frustrated. Jerritt got a little frustrated. That makes me smile and I love him"

Going up vs the overall #1 seed (and defending NC) seems to be a plight we have to build to overcome but I'm proud of the gals.

Our beat writer's recap

http://www.sanmarcosrecord.com/content/c...andle-loss

Quote:“I told my team all week that this is the best Texas State team that’s come to our gym,” Elliott said. “This is a team that’s very, very strong. We knew that and unfortunately for them, just because they’re 20 minutes down the road, they ended up here.”

Yeah I watched it on LHN. It was a good Texas St crowd. Well for volleyball. Team started cold but played better then UT for about 40% of the match. Just couldn't quite close it. We should be good next year as most of the team returns.

While I shudder to think what it would mean to UTA if TXST elevated their game to that level, love that you gave UT-Austin fits.

I also get upset with the seeding system. UT-Austin is consistently one of the better teams in the women's sports and to get any wins usually means we have to go through them. We have more postseason losses to them in volleyball, baseball and Olympic sports than any other team. There were several years where it was either us or UT-Austin leaving the regional. Yet, we are the lower seed. In this case, TXST, not the 64th seed, plays the first seed. I get they do that to lower travel costs, but it really sucks to have to constantly go through the school with the highest athletic budget in the NCAA.

I read 16 returning players out of 19. Just signed the #1 CenTex Defensive player out of Westlake. (For reference that's the same HS as Drew Brees and Nick Foles). Along with 4 others.
