Why nine conference games eight is more likely.
The SBC could go to seven conference games with a 12th member only one crossover game.Having five non conference games would be sweet.
The SBC if a 7 game schedule was created could allow members to play each other out of conference .That would be rare but for rivalry or scheduling ease it may help.Out of conference play one money game one FCS game then three toss-up games helps get more teams bowl eligible.

That is an 8 game league schedule...count again. No one is willing to give up that 4th valuable nonconference game at this point.
