Going for it on 4th down on your own side of the field may be "exciting", but I wouldn't call it fun to watch. More frustrating than anything else.

Let me just put it this way.

To me, I have yet to see the same level of "fun" or "excitement" in a game under McGee as I saw in these four games under Callaway.

UAB vs. Troy 2010
UAB at Southern Miss 2010
UAB at Memphis 2011
UAB vs. Southern Miss 2011

I hope that's not the case after this season. So far the McGee era has been overall "depressing", both in results and reactions from the players themselves.

The Southern Miss game this past year was fun to watch.

Southern Miss sucked, BADLY. UAB was down 0-16 at the half. It is, however, a rivalry game and the ending was probably enjoyable just to see their fans fall apart after the comeback...especially after we started the season 0-7 against Division 1 opponents...but kicking field goals to take the lead in the 4th quarter isn't exactly what I would call an "exciting offense".

I saw USM fans with bags on their head before the game and the bags remained there after. 03-lmfao

If we have half the success we wish UAB Football to have, you better get ready for a lot more people with opinions on the program on here.

I didn't realize that this place was a wing of the UAB Marketing Department fit only to pump sunshine for the Blazers. It was my understanding it was for open discussion about the games, program, etc.

Whatsa matta? Feeling a lil' ego-ish today, or rather id-centric? NM...

I doubt you've noticed much as it comes from you, but you do love being a contra-rian quite often, and it appears especially when you seem to think it improves your stature. So, someone said they thought speed would make for an exciting offense... Why not just let that stand? That's their opinion. You don't always have to kibbutz.

Some on here have become, quite frankly, unnecessarily pessimistic. Opinion is one thing. But some folks clearly have some other motives or personal distaste for McGee that have no relation to the product on the field.

I don't think McGee has done all that much yet but to some here, it sounds like they'd rather be under Callaway which leads me to question their credibility entirely.

McGee has produced one of the top offenses in America here at UAB after just one year. The defense was even improved under McGee in spite of the abysmal talent and depth issues on defense.

Has nothing to do with ego. My opinion is my opinion. I was just stating it. I'm a contrarian in real life. Ask anybody that knows me can tell you that. My personality comes through on the boards.

How does one improve their stature on a message board? 03-lmfao

And, I don't disagree with that one bit.

These guys did more with less (mostly 2 and 3 star players) at Arknsas, than anybody in the SEC. I have a feeling the grapes will get even more sour for some on here, if we win 6-7 games this year. Win 8, and some will be looking for a tall building to jump off of.

RE: Champlin: Powell moved to WR
Whether or not McGee is liked by some fans, former players, or media members makes little difference to me. Some of the best coaches in the game both at present and historically were not always thought of fondly in all circles.

To be a championship level coach, just as with many successful leaders, requires making tough decisions. On the other side of things, there are a number of examples where coaches were very personable and friendly with fans and players that didn't amount to anything in terms of success.

Having said all of that, I haven't seen anything that suggests McGee isn't personable or friendly. My point is merely that how well he is liked by people does not always relate to success as a coach. And what UAB football needs now most of all is success.

Southern Miss has got to be the worst beatdown...but I think some consideration has to be made to the fact that UAB was playing at "home" when Memphis whooped us last year.

And UAB ranked 112th in rushing last season.

1. UAB started out the year slow in terms of rushing the ball. It took us a while to settle in with Reaves and to get the OL opening up some holes.

2. It's hard to be both tops in passing and rushing offense. Something usually has to give because you're using your possessions either for passes or rushes, so UAB's rushing game was ranked as low as it was as much as anything because of the decreased percentage of rushing plays in general.

UAB was 19th in the nation in passing at 308 yards per game.

With respect to total offense (passing and rushing), UAB was 50th in total offense in America, still in the upper half of FBS schools.

The Tulsa and Marshall games were pretty exciting. ECU, too. A game doesn't have to end in a win to be exciting...
