i gave him props. i just said he's not droppin' 40 on brandon harris and western.

does your 'okay' mean you do believe he's gonna drop 40 on the toppers? this is not ken mcdummy's hilltoppers that wouldn't/couldn't play dee. this is ray harper's crew and he's not gonna let your boy drop 40 on him.

how many games did he drop 40 on someone? serious question. multiple times?

i read your board when you came to the sunbelt. i saw where your posters were laughing at the teams and talking how easy it was gonna be to run the conference. it's not gonna be as simple as you folks believe.

Career high is 38 vs. ODU.

http://www.georgiastatesports.com//pdf9/1979687.pdf

To be honest, it's not fair to predict anyone is going to put up that many points against anyone. You never knew how a guy is feeling that night or how a guy is guarded.

My "smack" about RJ was really just in response to some these hot-headed WKU fans thinking they are going to run through the conference before they leave for C-USA.

odu was horrendous last year. it was like shooting fish in a barrel for him probably. that takes nothing away from the kid. he's obviously a stud.

and what wku fans are saying they gonna 'run' through the conference? not near as many as your board had on it laughing about the belt and running it down as a conference the day you joined.

besides....you haven't heard me say it and i'm the sme on western.

The average conference RPI of the CAA since Georgia State entered was 13. With the CAA peaking at 8 in 2006 and 9 in 2011. Most of the time the conference hovered around 13 and its ranking of 22 last season was an anomaly.

The average conference RPI of the Sun Belt over that same span being 18.8. With the Sun Belt peaking at 14 in 2008 and 15 last season. Most of the time the conference hovered around the upper 20s.

Source: https://rpiarchive.ncaa.org/default.aspx

No one was running down the Sun Belt. I'm personally excited about having basketball games within a drive-able distance. But the reality is, as the numbers above show, the Sun Belt hasn't been nearly as tough as the CAA has been over the last eight or so years.
no doubt a much better hoops conference. but because of teams like george mason....not george-ia state. lol.

during those good years where were you finishing? honest question because i don't know.

and the folks on your board were most certainly ridiculing the basketball side of the sun belt. i visited your board and my take was your folks believed you'll run through this conference. now, you might not state that but it was the general consensus imo.

i believe you'll be in play because i followed hunter at ooey-pooey and believe he can build a winner in atlanta. i just don't believe you'll boatrace the conference and i also don't believe your boy will drop 40 on my squad. i could be wrong about both. they're just my opinions.
RJIII debuted last year with a double double (14 pts 10 rbs)...against Duke. He is the superstar on this team, not Harrow. But you add Harrow to Curtis Washington (USC transfer), Manny Atkins (VaTech transfer), Markus Crider (Ohio HS 3 star) and Isaiah Dennis ( Georgia HS 2 star) and you can see why people are buzzing. Will we win it all? Maybe not. But fifth place? LOL.

Well Hunter didn't come to Georgia State until the 2011-2012 season. So without verifying I would assume in the 2005-2006 and 2010-2011 season Georgia State was 11/12. Speaking of George Mason...the year they made their Final Four run Georgia State pushed them to overtime in the CAA tourney. A couple of bounces Georgia State's way and Cinderalla wouldn't have happened.

western fans are thrilled there's a team that's insulted where they're picked in hoops.

i look on ga state hoops as i have south al football. a powder keg. both lie in fertile recruiting grounds. south al is also in a football mad state.

the conference move won't help your hoops but having hunter does. if he can just get the table scraps from atlanta after the acc and sec pick it over he can do very well.

he lived off overlooked indy kids when he was at ooey-pooey and i'll assume he'll do the same in the nyc of the south.

It seems that Pappy based this almost solely based on returning starters.

Pappy puts a lot of thought and time into this. A bunch more than the preseason mag will.

Hard to pick against USA at #1

USA returns a lot, including last year's player of the year. The big question mark for us is our new coach. This is Matt Graves' first head coaching job. Can he come out hot right of the gate?

What happened to Ammons? he looked like a beast against us two years ago ....Last year did not look like quite the same player...Was he hurt last season?

I cannot believe you guys still have Rubit, seems like he has been playing for 10 years by now! haha...

Didn't say otherwise, but every team had something about the returning starters, but little about recruits, transfers or other news faces.

Plus, the reason he gave TXST the 7th spot was the coaching style of Kaspar, despite him being new with no recruits and players suited for a different tempo. Meanwhile, UTA has a coach who is a mirror of him, but been here for 8 years, has his players and a new mini-NBA arena. Just a little steamed still.

You guys first season in Sun Belt, ease off a bit...Beat some people this season and I am sure you will get more press and or respect the following season....but this was done by a fan in August, you may want to chill a little...Preseason Mags are not even out...I personally care more about how we finish post season...

He is like Mendez-Valdez at WKU. I swear OMV and his "There's Something About Mary" gelled hair was at WKU for about 10 years. And he could stink it up all season but came alive against USA.

Ammons played decently last year and was our second leading scorer after Rubit. He had some spurts where he struggled but that's anyone. Two years ago he played great for us to close the second half of the season. Our coach was probably playing with lineups to gear up for the SB Tournament, because Ammons only played 20 minutes @WKU when he averaged almost 30 per game on the season. I don't remember him being hurt and I can't recall the exact circumstances for him only getting 20 minutes for that game.

Easy to pick us as middle of the pack as we have a new coach, only eleven on scholarship, with 5 of those freshmen. Looks like we will have a freshman point guard.

Personally, I'm happy to have a fan base in the Belt that actually cares about their Pappy prediction and, by proxy, basketball. Welcome aboard, UTA!

I'll be interested to see how the SBC handles our matchup zone defense. We throw about a million of them at you. It stumped the CAA the first time around.

okay.

beating any zone....including a feared 'matchup zone' depends on outside shooting. your article is about one game against a team that lives on turning you over and scoring at the rim. the matchup zone must not have worked 16 times i guess.

the reason syracuse's matchup (most famous matchup zone) is so effective is the length of their players. i haven't seen your roster but i don't expect to see syracuse jr. out there.

tj price, chris harrison-docks, and brandon harris will get tired elbows from dropping 3's. ****none of them will drop 40 on you. but they will eat up a zone.

That VCU squad attempted 800 three pointers that season (http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketba...ealth-rams) which would have made them 3rd in the NCAA (http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketba.../year/2012) [I'm not really sure why VCU doesn't show up in the NCAA leaders for that year - they also don't appear in the 2012-2013 leaders - which leads me to believe ESPN has a glitch somewhere.]
