I would have gauged the interest by starting club level football as so many of us have done first.
Actually, I think KSU will do just fine. They are essentially a regional University in a high population density area, which will allow them to build local loyalty. They are a "commuter" school, but their commuters live much closer to the school than ours do. In addition, they have already done a better job with "big money" than we have, and they have plenty of big donors available.
I don't think that they will be in FBS anytime soon, but they will be a more successful FCS school than we ever could have been.
We should have called it like it was and said from day one we were going FBS. The mixed message and mission really torpedoed the last two years.

Yeah...I've been thinking about that recently. What the hell were we doing? What FCS team has the governor, the mayor, and Andy Young at their inaugural game? What FCS team has a front cover on ESPN the Magazine and Atlanta Magazine? What FCS team has the local Krispy Kreme making football doughnuts in celebration of our inaugural game? What FCS team is immediately referred to as one of the "Big 3" in the state? There was much more, too.
Until recently, I had actually forgotten about a lot of the pomp and circumstance that was made out of 9/2/10. As an aside, I'd be curious to know if KSU or Mercer get such attention, notoriety, and treatment in their first seasons.
My point is - we are doing all of this pomp and circumstance - but then telling folks: Nope. Our plans are to be FCS and compete in the "SEC of the FCS," the CAA. Our average alums and donors were probably like WTF did she say - with their dear in headlights look.
All cause we didn't want to piss off Tom Yeager? Seriously? We f***** 'cause we didn't want to hurt that guy's feelings?

What FCS seeking program spends te coin we did on a practice complex. It made no sense from day one. We could have played at Lakewood or Grady.
Why hire CBC?
Just say what it is from day one a la UTSA and then you would have had the recruits and the $$$ you are seeking NOW
