Cincy adds value by reducing WV costs.
BYU adds value as a national brand.

UCF/USF might be good but they just create another island.

No slight to ECU, but the UCF/USF combo adds a lot more than butts in seats. It's about rivalries, in a talent rich state that is football crazy. I voted UCF btw. Gotta love that homer vote. 04-rock

I could not agree more.

1) Potentially a GREAT rival game
2) Opens up Florida recruiting grounds
3) Each Big 12 team would get a Florida visit every year
4) Lots of TV sets on the I-4 Corridor
5) Two huge (enrollment) Public Universities
6) Two relatively new schools with large potential for growth

Ty

RE: Big 12 Expansion Candidates
I'm not keen on expansion on the moment, but if we had to do so, I'd probably look to add Cincinnati, Houston, USF, and UCF and go on to 14. Cincinnati is a good school with a big endowment, some athletic history and in a good recruiting area. Houston would be a final big piece in TX and get the Big 12 playing specifically in both of the biggest metro areas in the state, and USF and UCF would be a pairing of teams with potential in Florida.

BYU has an established brand, but I don't think we want to expand westward, particularly not that far. UConn is a great hoops brand, but that stretches the footprint a little too far Northeast I think. Had the expansion occurred when we lost NU and CU and included WVU/Louisville/Pitt/Cincy that could have been a good expansion, but that ship has clearly sailed.

If you want the "winning" combination of good TV markets combined with decades of football futility, then how could you go wrong with Memphis, Tulane and SMU. The trio includes one team that was put on the death penalty and two others that have just played that way.

if you look at geography... remember TV.. i predict 16 total teams.

1.cincinatti(Ohio)
2.BYU(national)
3.Tulane (louisiana,NOLA)
4.New Mexico
5.Airforce(national)
6.memphis(tennesee)

these six fit the criteria for athletics, academics, geography grows footprint in six new areas. adds and AAU school.

RE: Big 12 Expansion Candidates
Well I guess it would depend on how many they would bring in. I honestly think they should move to 14 schools, but who is the bigger question than how many. I too think they need to invest with some Eastern teams to help out West Virginia or come ten years they might actually want to east them selves.

My top two teams would be Cincinnati and Memphis. Now I know Memphis sucks in every aspect when talking football, but they are a regional team to the conference ( Big12 ) who would complement them in almost every sport, but football. The other two if they would go to 14 would be tough for I would think it would be simple as bringing in both Florida teams since they are wanting a bigger presence there, but what about going West with BYU and Boise State that would IMO bring some money to the fold, and keep the bigger boys happy with the additional payout.

It's really tough, but I doubt they ever expand unless the SEC, BigTen, and ACC write up some sort of an agreement that all conferences that don't play a CCG will not be eligible for a playoff spot. Who knows exactly what or when or who if expansion ever comes about amongst the Big12.

Smart money would bet on Memphis and Tulane (academics, SEC country) and you can take SMU out of the poll we were told never to apply.

RE: Big 12 Expansion Candidates
Why should the Big 12 add a school or schools that can't put 30K in the stands on a regular basis? If the Big 12 expands, we need to go after schools that can put 45-50K in the stands on a regular basis.

I'm sorry, the Big 12 and our TV partners have said thanks but NO THANKS.

Says the fan of a program that only remained relevant because of Texas politics. Just be thankful you're in the club, instead of scrounging for respect. Just be thankful to your big brother in Austin. Oh, sorry, did you just forget where you came from? That bustling metropolis of Lubbock? Interesting that you feel entitled to be so condescending given your point of origin.

There is nothing else to do in Lubbock. I kid, I kid. They have a rabid fanbase and when they come to SMU next month it will be a home game for them.

*fapping motion* you're still a school of dirt farmers in a crap market. You seem to pride yourself with brutal honesty. I hope that's honest enough for you. In the past I've supported your arguments against some pretty ugly aTm fans. I'm starting to see their points. Good luck with that cloak of superiority you wrap yourself up in.
