Crystal Bradford could become our first All American
Crystal led CMU to the MAC tournament championship last year after falling 1 second short in her first season. She was perhaps the highest ranked MAC recruit ever, and if you have watched her play she has more moves and athletic ability than any MAC player that I have ever watched, and I have seen them all. Her play has often been inconsistant and sporadic, and her motor is constantly running, probably driving her coach crazy at times. Now none of that is going to make you an All American, but what she did this week can pave the way.

Crystal was one of the stars of the USA National teams's gold medal perfomance in the World University games. With America down 1 point with 14 seconds to go she had a stickback basket in the semifinals vs Australia to win the game. She then added 16 points in the 19 point win over Russia in the championship game. The other stars of the team were Odyssey Sims of Baylor and Bria Hartley and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis of UConn. If you follow women's hoops, those are likely All Americans next year.

Wally Sczerbiak followed this path to became an All American at Miami, being a star on the National team in the summer and getting so much attention that The Sporting News made him their cover boy on their preseason edition. Crystal will have put herself in the consciousness of the people who pick things like All American teams, she will have caught the attention of WNBA scouts with this performance. If she has a big season this year, the opportunity will be there.

I think I read that Kendall Nunn was the highest ranked recruit in the history of the MAC. Of course rankings differ by ranker and are pretty subjective: Nunn will be playing JC ball next year, I believe after leaving UT. Bradford, on the other hand, seems to have overcome some of her over the top behavior and is showing her skill at a very high level.

She is very athletic and plays with toughness. I wish my boys would play like her on the court.

nunn was not that highly rated. she was a top 100 recruit according to some, lower per others. bradford was ranked in the top 30 in the nation accross the board.
