That was WKU. They face Army and Navy, both TO teams. state doesn't face any TO teams to my knowledge...in fact, I believe the only non spread teams we play are UAPB, Texas State, Idaho, and Georgia State.

Just because we run all the time doesnt mean you cant pass out of the triple option. I remember when we had Tracy Ham we threw a lot more than we do now. I am hoping with the move up we can attract the type of QB that can run and throw.

You are probably correct. Those were the first two I watched and started to put WKU, but changed it at the last moment.

Ramsby will surprise many people this year.

God's gift to football stoops so low to take a player from F_U? I am speechless.

I believe he'll be third string behind Jerick McKinnon and A.J. Ramsby this year. Izzy Youyoute, another decent QB had to be moved to safety because we had too many QB on the roster and needed more speed at safety (we got burned too many times in the backfield last season).

Has GaSo signed any other QB's than the reshirted freshman FIU transfer, Upshaw?

Since FIU doesnt run the Spread Triple Option I have to wonder why he is looking at Georgia Southern! WE have a very good prospect for QB from Ohio who ran the option in highschool. His weight is not a problem as long as he can take a hit. It would take time to develope him as an option QB and he's already been red shirted.

GSU spent all spring this year running the TO out of the shotgun formation. Looked a lot like the Oregon offense. I think you will see much more passing from GSU in the future and more of the Oregon style spread option. This is why he chose GSU.

Zero chance. We will be a flexbone team 80% of the time.

Running something other than the TO 20% of the time is a big change from what we normally do. I can tell you this, we didnt just waste all spring running a shotgun style TO for nothing, and we didnt recruit the Vegus Harleys and get Fabian Upshaw just because we were going to run the TO 100% of the time. We got those guys because they are more of the dual threat types and we are going to start throwing the ball more.

It was spring and we didn't have McKinnon available. Good time to throw in some gimmicks. I don't understand why any fan of GSU is so quick to want to change the offense. Last time we did we got a retard like Chris Hatcher. Stay the course. Stay with under the center flexbone. It's like Novacaine. These teams in the Sunbelt are going to have a headache with it. Not so with the cookie cutter Oregon offense "some" are advocating.

Under the right coach it worked over 80% of the time & I'm sure Coach Monken will approch that after our first transition year in the Sun Belt.03-cloud9

He was pretty high on Appy. Wondering if they were still interested in him as a QB. Seems like that's the only position he wants to play, but he will definitely have to earn it.

With App transitioning to more of a Pistol scheme and QB's with less emphasis on the run, based on that article, I'd say Upshaw is a far better fit for the Flexbone.

It's hard to say but he could be your best QB. May not take him that long to learn the system.

I believe that may be a mistake. Your best teams had a true dual threat QB along with a dangerous threat at RB so running option/zone read plays were equally deadly. You guys have not had any real success since losing both of these facets of your offense.

These QB's we are recruiting are listed both ways by different sites. Mainly they are all pass first and only run for your life if you have to with few set plays to run the football. Could make what runs they do more effective, but mainly preserves the health of the QB more. Doesn't matter how good they are if they are not in the game.

Still don't think it's following the recipe that made you guys as dangerous as you once were. With Armanti and Richie, you HAD to respect the run game both from the RB and the QB. Richie didn't run as much, but he could move if the opportunity was present. If you guys are going to be getting away from that, you're going to start looking more Air Raid-ish in your attack. You guys were one of the first successful true "spread" teams of the 2000s, no reason not to get back to that level.

I'll agree we have never had much of an answer for running QB's. Exhibit A, Armanti Edwards, Exhibit B (Huesman - UTC). Huesman had almost 200 yards rushing on us last season.

And I'll tell you what Huesman is back for another season. UTC was 1 OT win away from replacing one of the playoff teams and 2 OT wins away from an outright conference championship. They will be a force this season.

RE: Georgia Southern set to get first look at Sun Belt
Believe you both are correct and that a really great running duel threat QB would be great to
have. However, one that can do that and have a 70% passing completion rate with few interceptions
are not a dime a dozen. Top BCS schools go after them a lot more than they did even ten years ago.
Many of those are short QB's also that are left. When you have 6'6" linemen it makes it harder than in
high school for a lot of those duel threat QB's to achieve.
Believe Satterfield has gone the other direction. We have several great 6'5" receivers, and some real speed.
So we need to get the ball to them, a lot. Taking good sized QB's with great passing percentages
and few interceptions that can run if needed. It also keeps the QB's on the field more and less chance of
injury. Not a perfect solution but one that he seems determined to go with.
