Petrino SI Top 10 Coach
Not much talk on this Board about the Hilltoppers since we announced our move to CUSA. But, by the time this season is over, all of our Sun Belt opponents will be well aware of Bobby's coaching prowess.

RE: Petrino SI Top 10 Coach
The thing I think about is Bobby Petrino's first seasons:
Louisville (CUSA) 5-3
Louisville (Big East) 5-2
Arkansas (SEC) 2-6

(Atlanta Falcons 3-10 -- not a fair comparison)

What will Petrino's first (and only) season in the Sun Belt hold for him? I'm thinking it might not be as good as some WKU fans think. Some think he will run through this conference, but I think it will be more along the lines of a 5-3, 6-2 type record.

We play 7 conference games.

Good grief... I'm glad WKU is leaving. There isn't room for both of our fan bases egos.

That we do. Lol. I was thinking 8 teams. So I amend that to them having a 4-3, 5-2 type record.

Any list of 'best' coaches in NCAA FBS that does not have both Mark Hudspedth and Hugh Freeze in its top 20 is not worth the read.

The question then remains... this list only has the top 10... so did you read it?

Hudspeth is not Top 20, and Freeze a some more coaching to do at Ole Miss before he should be considered. Hedspeth has some good records at lower levels, but hasn't gotten Louisiana to at Top 25 ranking or more than 8 wins in the regular season. He has to show he can play defense as well.

Did you really think anyone from Atlanta would have a nice thing to say about Petrino?

As a fan of the Falcons, I will give it a shot.

"If Bobby Petrino hadn't been such a gutless coward who scampered off in the middle of the night, we might not have gotten Mike Smith."

Sorry.
That's the best I can do.

I've always liked WKU as a conference mate and hate that we won't get to build a football rivalry with yall.
But yall let the devil in the door when you hired that horse squeeze of a human being.

The article shows the top 10, plus the first 5 out, plus the next 5 'heirs apparent'.

What will Petrino's first (and only) season in the Sun Belt hold for him? I'm thinking it might not be as good as some WKU fans think. Some think he will run through this conference, but I think it will be more along the lines of a 5-3, 6-2 type record.

I am not sure what WKU fans have said we will run through this conference in football unless you are getting confused with the basketball side of things in which most WKU Fans are confident of running through the Sun Belt in basketball men and women's....

If he goes 5 and 3 and 6 and 2 in conf. I would say that would be a good season for Petrino's first year with mostly Taggarts players...I am just not sure how much we really will able to do what Petrino wants to do his first season, but you have to remember those other 1st year records came after programs were down when he came in replacing ousted coaches...taggart did not leave the cupboard bare for Petrino, but it may be pieces that is not exactly what Petrino wants offensively at least...It will be interested to see as the season progresses how much offense Petrino can run with the personnel he has..I am guessing we are not going to throw it as much as he would normally like with the strength of our team being run blocking OL and running backs....Now the first season of CUSA, I can really see the offense taking off and morphing into more of Petrino's offense....

I will say the schedule sets up fairly nice this season for Petrino and on paper most games seems to winnable....

Its worth noting that Petrino left both Louisville and Arkansas in shambles. He knows how to coach offense...but his teams traditionally have some of the worst defenses around.

I am pretty confident there are 10 college coaches better.

Maybe not the regular season, but someone is going to have to actually beat those guys come tourney time. They have owned the SBC Tourney the last few years, and we don't want any CUSA bound teams winning the league on their way out.
