Actually, Ray Lynch was. He had been in the color guard prior to that I believe. At some point Glenda was the "guard instructor" but I think that was earlier in the '80's.

Cool. I won't derail the thread further; but my years there, the guard instructor was Aubrey Rohr (RIP) & Glenda essentially called shots (no guys) through 06 or 07 when Carly Philp took over.

Since I was an MRD and haven't contributed, I'll definitely add BFP and Rooney, along with Brantley as some very memorable people.
I too remember the preacher.. he was quite the laugh.

Even though I probably do not agree with him on anything politically, Steven Guerrier, has to be one of my favorite professors. The Dick Nixon bumper sticker was classic. His shrine to FDR was a bit weird.

Brother Clive Hallman (native-born son of the Great State of Georgia) taught me and the rest of my Old South class how to make a great mint julip.

Miss Kathy brought deer meat to me and some of my roommates to supplement our protien intake.

Chris Thurman (current Blue Streaks head coach)- high-larious as a grad assistant.

Scott 'Big Lay' Layfield (straight out of Sussex Central)- good for a laugh after an hour and half of watching practice film.

Ryan 'Ry-no' Anderson- he had a good theory about the existence of chalk, and his life's ambitition was to follow the Greatful Dead around and sell cheese sandwiches to all the potheads. His plans fell through with the demise of Jerry Garcia.

Clive was THE MAN. I was lucky to take a May session course with him for the 3 credits I needed to graduate after I walked. It was a Colonial Williamsburg course where we stayed in Williamsburg for a week. Drinking scotch with Clive in the hotel room to pregame before we went out on a Thursday night was one of the best moments I experienced at JMU.

MRD in Radford, huh? Where you driving in Blacksburg on Saturday in maybe a late 90's-early 2000's gray/silver Civic with someone in the passenger seat? If so, you were tailgating me and then you cut me off, and I was about to pull a power move and cut you off in an effort to assert my dominance, but I saw that the car had a JMU sticker and an MRD sticker, so I let it slide.

Had the same exact experience, great person and professor. Apparently he retired in December 2012.

From my time at JMU 1999-2004
1) There was this guy who played bball at UREC on the regular and always wore a Duke basketball jersey and matching shorts. He had an ugly J. (hope he's not on these boards). 03-lmfao
2) The "preacher" who came onto the Commons in front of DHall every year around Spring to get in peoples faces and call all the girls "whores" and all the guys "forniacters" - What a lunatic.
3) There was this dime piece waitress at the Madison Grill (is that still there?) on the top floor of Warren or Taylor who was worth the price of admission which was like a special punch on your JAC card you could only use once a semester if my memory serves me correctly. Trust me, she was a memorable one for me

Was there the same time...dont remember 1. But definitely remember 2 and 3. Sad this is I worked at Madison Grill 02-05 and can't remember her name.

He retired in December, 2012? Damn, he must be around 90!

Someone else I forgot...

The late Prof. Geoffrey Morley-Mauer -- if you ever had him for Prose fiction or Poetry, he was high-larious. He'd tell stories about his times in the RAF before WWII. One of my favorite stories was his first and only trip to a brothel in Cairo. He wrote a book about his time in the RAF in WWII called Messerschmitt Roulette. The bookstore used to sell it. I'm sure you could find it on Amazon; it's a good read.

Morley-Mower used to let his May session kids out 10 minutes early so he could beat the rest of the students to Lakeview golf course. You'd see him riding his moped/scooter w/ his little carry bag on Port Republic headed out to the course.

One of my favorite profs I had at JMU because of his personality and stories. I think every other class there was a story about him and his wife hooking up as well as the WWII stories.

Tremonkey had a pretty good rep around campus when I was in undergrad!

Anyone have prof Ben Hutchins? I think I had him for a critical thinking/morality class freshman year. dude was 9 feet tall minimum, and was just brilliant. I felt dumb just being near him. Smartest guy i've ever met or seen on TV and it wasn't even close. Somehow I scored an A- just for going every single class and trying to answer a question from time to time even tho i was terrified. I can't even remember there being homework for the class I think it was literally about being able to carry on a dialog and, well, think critically.

When I graduated in 98 I took a job with Miller Brewing Co. My job was to basically go out to the local Harrisonburg nightspots and promote Miller Lite. At that time Joe was the doorman at the Blue Fox. He introduced me to the owners and we sold a hell of a lot beer due to the introduction. Joe and Tim O'neill (owner of the Biltmore and lots of other establishments of different names in the same location,) were the two guys who helped me the most when I was a young buck getting started in business. Love both of them with all my heart!

Damn I love Joe Hollis... Freshman year I had him for an accounting class. I scored a beautiful 75 on the first exam and then a 60 on the second exam. I went to his office and asked him for help. He looked me straight in the eye and said "don't even bother coming back to my classroom the rest of the semester, you have a GD C grade recorded now." The best COB professor of all time in my humble opinion!

Anyone have Jen Frazier for real estate? Not only was she the most charasmatic and fun professors in the COB, lots of non-business majors took the basic real estate class as an elective (cough cough easy A). She was awesome!

Always love reading stories about Clive. I took one of his classes close to 25 years ago, and I thought he was near retirement then. The man's a marvel.
