Rutgers becoming a B1G school just in time

Quote:In an instant, Rutgers will become a 65,000-student school with a $3 billion budget. It will rank among the top 25 research universities in the nation, with more research spending than Harvard, Yale or Northwestern University.

Wow! Impressive. As of tomorrow, Rutgers will be in the top 3 in enrollment and have one of the largest research revenues in the country. Definitely B1G-worthy. Congrats!!

Maryland tried to do this a few years back but the Medical school in baltimore didn't want to be under the College Park president. It's a numbers game, but sadly the rankings are that easy to game.

This is like the reverse of the situation that pushed UN-Lincoln out of the AAU ... with the Medical School and its federal and corporate research located at UN-Omaha, UN-Lincoln didn't have those dollars; with much of Dept. of Agriculture research funding distributed by formula rather than competitive grant, most of UN-Lincoln's Ag school dollars don't count. If the UNebraska system were organized with the Med school in Lincoln and the Ag school in Omaha, UNL would still be in the AAU.
