As far as charter, true, I think most basketball teams will fly charter. However, the other team sports will probably fly commercial which is where this comes into play...

Those stats look better. The site I found wasn't very good.
Truth is most people fly places with one stop. Wichita is no exception. Since Southwest arrived, the prices and cost of bags has become much cheaper.

Sure, most people fly with one-stop, however, it is a factor, does save probably 2-3 hours of layover and decreases risk of flight delays if you only have one direct flight. This is important for student athletes who need to return to school for classes and what not.

True, but with Syracuse being the toughest to match with Wichita, you can still make it in just over 5 hours.

I visited a cousin in Wichita 12+ years ago. I flew Providence to Chicago. Then Chicago to Kansas City. Then Kansas City to Wichita. The flights out of Wichita were in a 20 seat prop plane, and we had to fly around the most terrifying storm clouds I've ever seen. Nice city and the women were gorgeous.

Based on what the 6 hour drive versus the 4 hour drive. Do tell how that is a better travel partner?
No a four hour drive or an hour flight?
Right - The Big East is the big leagues not a bus league. Checking the Omaha airport website, they have direct service from Chicago (DePaul), Washington (GU), New York (SJU) and Newark (SHU). With Delta service through Detroit, Omaha is probably a one stop flight from any other city in the league.
Guys there is no less cost pressure on the minor sports in the Big East than in other leagues. In fact, their appears to date to be more because more money has to go into basketball to keep it competitive. Examples of this include: sending 4 teams instead of 6 to the conference tournament, playing Friday/Saturday instead of Thursday/Saturday to save hotel costs, playing a tourney in Tuscon (no recruiting value) instead of CA (huge recruiting value) because the host school pays the cost.
The minor sports have never flown between travel partners due to costs and they won't start this year. At the rate they are cutting costs in minor sports we will be lucky if they don't hand them a freaking bicycle.

I agree that nonstop flights are key to making these far flung conferences work from a travel standpoint.
