2014 football scheduling question
For 2014 it appears clear the SBC will have 11 football playing schools. Assuming we play an 8 game conference schedule that means each team will play everyone except 2 teams.

Will the divisional idea mean that east schools (South Alabama, Troy, Appalachian, Georgia St. and us -- Ga. Southern). be guaranteed to play each other? Will the 2 SBC teams we don't play be western schools? Or could the 2 we don't play be eastern schools?

I think I remember someone saying that everyone would play the schools near them.

What do you consider near? (asking for TXST, Idaho and NMSU)

You guys will certainly play ULL, ULM, NMSU, Idaho, and ASU.

In most conferences, each team plays the teams in their same division annually and the teams in the other division on a rotating basis.

You guys will certainly play ULL, ULM, NMSU, Idaho, and ASU.

So, counting ASU, Louisiana, Idaho, and NMSU as automatic wins for us... We're in good shape!

(I kid, because... well, I'm bored.)

Pretty much how it should work with us.

If I was mapping ASU's games for 2014, and taking into account attempting to avoid back to back road trips for anyone, here is what I see.

Home:
ULM
NMSU

Away:
Texas State
ULL
Idaho (We play them nonconference in Jonesboro this year)

That leaves three games against Ga Southern, App State, Ga State, USA, and Troy. Ga State and Troy both come to Jonesboro this year, so I am guessing that one of those will drop off. USA would be scheduled to come to Jonesboro in 2014, so I could see them staying on. That would mean that we would play One of App State or Ga Southern in Jonesboro.

I guess we'll know around March 1st

RE: 2014 football scheduling question
With all the change, I wager there will be some teams traveling to places in 2014 they traveled to in 2013 or hosting people in 2014 they hosted in 2013.

The easiest way to deal with the schedule is to pretend you are starting from scratch in 2014.

This is what will happen. It has happened in other conferences going through the same growing pattern. I am excited about South's first trip to Boone though. I'm going to try real hard to get to that game.

Hope we host GaSt. in 2014. This isn't a weird bash on them, like saying we are too good to head up there first and they should play us at home.
It's just that we already play GT in Atlanta in 2014 and would like to spread the ATL games out a little. Having 2 games in one year is great for ATL fans, but having one for 2 years would help keep those casual fans interested.

This is the obvious answer, except that with eleven members you won't have divisions, which, I'd imagine, is why the question was asked.

We had ten members this year with eight games meaning everyone missed someone.

RE: 2014 football scheduling question
Exactly. I am just wondering with 11 teams will we be guaranteed to play 4 of our conference games vs. Ga. State, Troy, South Alabama, and Appalachian with the other 4 coming from the 6 teams in the western part of the conference.

I would be very disappointed for example if we don't play Appalachian in 2014 as 1 of the 2 teams teams we don't play.

We'll probably play everyone but NMSU & Idaho.

I wouldn't count on it. Only one school will miss them both in any given season.

JoeJag,
When / if you make it up to Boone, I can guarantee you this much - You will meet some of the most passionate and knowledgable football fans in North Carolina and will be welcomed to tailgates, food tents, etc... with open arms. Hope for October tilt when fall foilage is in full form. App has lead the Southern conference in attendance and noise level for some time. I think we can really ramp it up for some new Sunbelt peers !

I'd rather have both games played in Atlanta since it will be our first year playing at the FCS level. Playing two games in arguably the largest college football market on the planet would be great exposure. I'd rather hit the Atlanta market over the head with exposure our first year than spread it out.

I can't wait for 2014.

Thats because you live in ATL. Ok so you have 2 games in 2014, then nothing for 2015. That means a whole year of no news in the ATL market basically.

Also, I'd rather drive 2.5 hours to the boro than 5 hours to ATL (hate that drive up 26 to columbia).

If it wasn't our first year at the FCS level I'd agree with you. I just like the idea of making the biggest splash in Atlanta as possible our first year.
