CUSA may not be able to depend on FIU for much for awhile with the release of their APR's today. At least Sun Belt isn't losing anyone hopefully this way.

"IF" this were to happen what would this mean for their CUSA membership and CUSA moving forward?

That is an ugly situation, and the NCAA needs someone to make an example of. It's the ol' "We're so mad at Kentucky that Cleveland State got five years probation" principle.

Know you are kidding, just wish I had a copy handy of the football game at FIU with what seemed a dozen fans in the stands from a nationally televised game to throw on here.

If you look for ASU's highlight video from last year, we were that game for them last year. ESPNU nationally telecast on a Thursday Night, about 100 people in the stands. It was sad.

cusa is going to probably add a team to the east if FIU leaves. Where do you think FIU will go for conference affiliation?

I'm sure that I won't add to my friendship list of FIU faithful, but IMO, I think the Golden Panthers made a huge mistake bolting for coosa. I'm sure they thought it was THE thing to do as they and their admin got caught up in the realignment frenzy. Unfortunately for them, though, they're going to get left behind. They will come to realize it was a blunder on their part to jump when they did. In answer to your question, I think they'll probably attempt to re-enter the SBC eventually. It would be foolish for them to try independence and dropping down to FCS is out of the question.

FIU has issues because of basketball and especially Isaiah Thomas. We had similar problems when Dickey Nutt left but not to the same extent. Those APR issues should be easy to fix.

FIU will always have a hard time drawing fans and support and they won't bring any bump in ratings for their conference but they have a huge enrollment and they charge their students a lot of fees to pas the budget so they won't have any problems staying FBS.

FIU and FAU are stronger together than they are apart. I think they will either both stay in C-USA or both leave at the same time for the same destination.

I will be honest ... when we first started hearing that APP was going FBS I wanted CUSA. However, at that point CUSA still had ECU. Now that ECU has moved on there is no need for us to be over there. SBC is no worse football wise and maybe even better than CUSA. I do think SBC has better additions than CUSA (meaning APP and GaSo). So now maybe equal to a slight edge for SBC. In the next 5 years though ... All SBC. Once us and GaSo get going they better look out. Heck back in 2009 we lost to ECU by 5 without AE and they went on to win the CUSA again.

APP and GaSo will always be better than ODU and UNCC. Now if we can just get JMU then CUSA might be in a world of hurt down the road.

I recall seeing a Tuesday night game on espn 2 or espn u last season. It was fiu and ark state I believe. When they panned out, excluding the band, I would estimate that there was literally somewhere between 100-200 fans in the stands.
I know it's a Tuesday night, but come on. I thought Miami was hot for those F_U schools?! Media markets, right?
It was so quiet that you could hear the cracking of pads and coaches yelling on the sidelines, almost making out what they're saying.

You should probably take into account that a successful athletics program consists of more than just football. And add to that the fact that no one knows how competitive these move ups are going to be in the long term anyways. I still don't get all of the edges people are supposedly giving the Sunbelt over CUSA based on wins over a winless USM, Memphis and UAB. The final season rankings last year went something like

36. Louisiana Tech
52. ULL
59. ULM
62. MTSU
66. WKU
77. UTSA
79. Rice
82. Troy
92. UNT
111. UTEP
112. UAB
118. South Alabama
121. Idaho
123. New Mexico State

Giving ULL the win over ECU IMO is the only matchup that was really even worth mentioning between the two conferences last year. And it's a given that the USM thing was a fluke season so won't be able to count that one every year. I won't even discuss basketball.

I guess you will just have to wait and see.

As for the entire athletics ... I really don't care about anything but football and a tad bit of baseball unless we are watching the Olympics.
I said SBC will be better in football down the road not basketball. Yes CUSA will be better in basketball but I am only interested in football. SBC will be better than CUSA in football.

Says the guy whose football seasons can be counted on one hand and the compadre school hasn't even fielded a team yet. (Not counting 30-41 cause that isn't relevant). Yeah, lots of stellar history there to compare to App and GaSouth.

Don't forget the first two seasons filled with enough cupcakes to make you vomit, followed by two years in a CAA conference that is collectively down the past two seasons. That is evidenced by the record low for playoff bids since expanding to a 20 team field.
To their credit, they do have a hotshot QB who is passing with alarming efficiency and I still don't get how he fell off the recruiting radar that far.
