Sun Belt players in NFL OTA's
Since it seems we are running out of football topics...

Any of your men making a splash during teams OTA's so far this summer? (Drafted or Undrafted)

We have 4 in OTAs

Quote:Two new Georgia State football players are joining the two previous Panthers on off-season rosters of NFL teams. That fact of having four GSU players in NFL camps, despite just having played three seasons of football in the program’s new history, is amazing.

Running back Donald Russell is wearing number 33 with the Atlanta Falcons in an official three-day camp that began this week. Tight end/H-back Emmanuel Ogbuehi began work last week with the Washington Redskins, wearing uniform number 80.

These recent Panthers join last year’s duo who are back with their NFL teams. DT Christo Bilukidi, a sixth round draft pick last year, signed a four-year contract with the Oakland Raiders and was on the active roster all season. Big No. 96 continues to bulk up to anchor the middle of the line. Linebacker Jake Muasau was released last summer by the N.Y. Giants after exhibition games, but was invited to re-sign and try again this year. Muasau is wearing No, 43 again as he did during last year’s pre-season NFL season.

NFL teams may carry a maximum of 90 active players during the offseason. By the end of the third preseason game in August they must start cutting the roster down to the final 53 players for regular season. Teams are also permitted to sign eight players to their practice squads for the regular season.

Russell finished with 1,616 yards rushing and receiving yards in 18 games with Georgia State, including 1,412 rushing yards and 12 TD’s. He was leading the CAA in rushing through eight games last year when he sustained a knee injury. Russell had transferred to GSU for his final two years after playing the first two at Kentucky.

Ogbuehi played all three years as a Panther on their inaugural teams and had 47 catches for 581 yards and 4 TD’s, while also showing his blocking skills from his tight end spot. The Buford, Ga. native was a stalwart last year with 26 catches and three TDs to finish his college career.

NFL teams run three “Offseason Training Activities, (OTA)” which are three three-day organized sessions in May and early June. Then, each team has an official Mini Camp of three days in mid to late June per the NFL bargaining agreement. NFL teams then report to their summer training camp to start the seasons the last week of July. The Redskins have their rookies report early on July 16 and the remainder of the team on July 25. The Falcons have all players report together on July 25. The Giants start camp on July 26 and the Raiders on July 29. Four preseason games are scheduled for August to evaluate the rosters and make the final cut downs.

Per @jwyattsports:

–Western Kentucky tight end Jack Doyle is taking full advantage of his opportunities. The undrafted free agent caught more than a half dozen balls on Thursday, including a touchdown from Locker. Doyle has soft hands and moves well for his size (6-6, 253).

ULM has Keavon Milton and WR Brent Leonard, who are both with the Saints.

UDFAs
CB Darryl Morris - 49ers
LB Joplo Bartu - Falcons

Tried to find some OTA tidbits but wasn't successful. I have been on forums for both teams and the fans are impressed by both players.
Both did well in their min-camps. Hoping for, at least, practice squads.
Niners coach did say they are looking for replacements for their aging CBs. Atlanta personnel stated Bartu played above his competition.

Just have to wait it out.

RE: Sun Belt players in NFL OTA's
Sweet Deal! I know that JJ Wilcox our safety (3rd rnd pick to Cowboys), has been raising eyebrows at OTA's. I doubt he will start the beginning of the season, but I expect him to make a big impact in special teams, and then hopefully earn his starting position by the end of the season.

RE: Sun Belt players in NFL OTA's
App has Sam Martin (punter) who was drafted by the Lions and Demetrius McCray (cornerback) who was drafted by the Jaguars. Our UDFAs this year are Jeremy Kimbrough (linebacker, Redskins), Steven Miller (running back, Lions), and Troy Sanders (safety, Falcons). Also, since this is about OTAs, Armanti Edwards is having a very good OTA once again with the Panthers. For those unfamiliar with App football, Armanti won the Walter Payton Award (FCS Heisman), beat Michigan, and was the quarterback leading the way to two of the three straight national titles. He is widely regarded as the greatest App of all time by many people. He was drafted by the Panthers in 2010 (one of the worst drafts in Panthers history) and was converted to WR/PR/KR. He's always had great OTAs and a fantastic attitude, but when the season comes around he doesn't seem to get on to the field as much as us App fans would like. He did last year, however, have the longest reception and punt return for the team. Here's an article on a great catch by AE:
