ALDOT operates out of Montgomery on money they get from the General Fund - which you read a lot about during the last legislative session when our legislators said they had no money to provide any raises for state employees and no money to fund maintenance and upkeep on state roads and bridges. Our governor agreed and suggested that the state borrow several hundred million dollars to help the ALDOT fix some of them. He plans, naturally (for Alabama) to pay off the bonds with federal funds he hopes Congress will supply. No one has said where the money will come from IF Congress doesn't oblige.

There are many in the metro city area who really - as in DESPERATELY - need dependable public transportation, but the state has refused to provide the matching funds the city needs to gain access to large grants from the federal government while other states gobbled up the money for their own cities while B'ham watched helplessly. That is why B'ham's MAX can only buy a few new busses at a time while other cities buy them by the dozens. Blaming MAX for the lack of good public transportation is like blaming the UAB administration for the lack of an OCS. They are BOTH operating under the constraints imposed by others (with far greater political power) in the state.

I think maybe he needs to go on a suicide watch. There something obviously wrong with him if he would choose death over a stupid football game.
